We have 4 phones on our plan. 3 in our immediate family household and then my dad is on our plan.

Well, dad's phone is about 8 years old....and the battery is finally about dead.

We would like to have him take one of the phones we have currently as it is more user friendly, and then get his new phone transferred to one of our numbers.

How do I go about this and how much extra will we have to pay to switch the numbers?

Thanks.

I have been a Sprint customer forever and a day. In order for your father to do this he would have to have the new phone on his number for 60 days then they will let you switch numbers around after that. All you would have to do after the 60 days is either call the sprint customer service number or go into any sprint store and they could do the switch in minutes for you.

60 days? Really?

Shoot. He is visiting for 4 weeks from the West Coast. Hmmmmm.......

He is 75 so I am not sure dealing with a lot of mailing back and forth is a good idea.

BUT, the phone he wants they recently stopped making and I have one.

We did this a few years ago. We added my mom to our account. The "free" phone that was available at the time was one she didn't like, so we were told we could get it with her number, then switch them. I remember it as being 30 days that we had to wait. After that we gave DD the new phone and mom got DD's old phone (which was only a couple months old at the time)

Actually, that isn't true. We have also been Sprint customers forever and have done this a number of times for multiple reasons. Most recently, I ordered a new phone online thru our account, for DD13 off of DD11's phone number because she had the largest upgrade credit available. When I called into customer service, actually I may have done it by chat:confused3, anyway, I told them which phone number I wanted to activate the phone under. Not a single question, or concern by the rep. Now, as we approach Christmas, DD11 will be getting a new phone. Because I already used her upgrade credit, I will be using my upgrade credit for her phone and do what I did before. Heck, if I remember correctly, this craziness all began when DH lost his phone at a concert and needed a new one, but it was only a few months old. No upgrade credit left. Soooo, we used upgrade credit from one of the other lines and it has lead to this jumbled mess of almost never upgrading on our own upgrade credit. We've even had to reactivate old phones for youngest DD when she has lost hers. Its easy and nobody has ever questioned us.

I just upgraded mine using DHs "upgrade"
I just had to call when I got home from the store and tell them to switch the numbers around from phone to phone

Ok, good. Maybe I can get it done immediately then.

I plan to visit the Sprint store tomorrow.

Thanks!,

My DD lost her phone at school last Spring. When we went into Sprint to replace it they used my upgrade. They did it right there in the store. Maybe it depends on who helps you, but we didn't have to wait to have the number switched or anything.

I use whoever has the best upgrade to get a discount on my phones all the timel It is never a hassle and it is effective right at the time. I have been doing this for years.

The problem is sprint won't approve your mail in rents if the phone is not on the right number. What you should do is get the upgrade at beat buy or radio shack since they have no mail in rebates. Then you can just use the Internet without even needing to talk to sprint to switch the phones.

As far as how much money, I believe you can esn swap once a month(each line) from net and it costs nothing.

For some reason we don't qualify for internet savings.

We pay about $100/month, but $60 of that is my husband's work blackberry and he gets reimbursed for that (Sprint doesn't know that though.) Sprint considers that a different plan, even though they all come on the same bill.

$40 is a $35 family plan and an extra phone (so 3 altogether) and they are telling me that I have a $35 plan and you need a $39 plan or higher to get the extra savings. I have a work 23% off plan too so even though the total should be $45 plus tax, the discount brings it down to $42 with tax.

I DO NOT MIND paying a little more for a phone though and I do not want to change our rates. They gave me a fantastic deal 3 years ago and I want to keep the discount. It usually ends up being $25-$50 per phone every 2-4 years. We don't swap out our phones all the times that we can either.

Verizon and ATT allow you to do it on the spot. i know Verizon, you can actually call in and assign the ESN to whatever account you want. You can do it online too.

i'm sure Sprint is the same. Just go to the store and ask to switch phones to a different number.

Didn't get to the store today. Crazy busy, but hopefully soon.

I also know that last time I called in to Sprint and told them my phone was DEAD that they shipped me one even though it wouldn't let me order online. So I may call in too. My dad's phone's battery is so bad that it pretty much only works when plugged in. There is no replacement as this thing is so old.
