Hello my DIS friends for those of you guys that have Sprint phone/plan please help me pick a phone I am in need of an upgrade I am a current Sprint customer and my contract is about to expire, I would love one of those Droid phone's but dont want to pay too much for a plan(budget board;)) I occasionally text, search the web go on Face book and of course DIS boards:lovestruc I would LOVE the Disney App.

What do you have and how much do you pay what do you love about it? TIA

If you like Sprint, look at Virgin Mobile. It operates on Sprint's network. It is prepaid, non contract. For $25 a month you get unlimited texts, unlimited data and 300 minutes. They have an android phone available. It is a fantastic deal.

Im waiting for my Virgin Mobile phones to arrive....if they are good we will be leaving AT&T.

Verizon called me to say they wanted me back and asked how to make it happen. I told her to match the price from VM. She laughed and said oh they couldn't do that!

how does the prepaid work it sounds like a good deal are VM located at the Sprint store?

I recently switched from Verizon to Sprint and got the Samsung Transform. It has an android operating system and was on sale for $50 at Radio Shack. It's a great gadget, but what I don't like is the actual telephone function. The call clarity is very good, but I miss my actual buttons. To me it feels taxing to have to press all these virtual buttons to get to where I could before with pressing one button. As such, I"m thinking about taking it back. Also, I am getting no service at work inside the building and the phone is going into airplane mode. I can't get the phone to recognize when I take it out of that mode and so I have to shut it down and restart. Very annoying to do every day.

I also worry about how i would make a call an emergency if I cant see the screen. voice dialing is not working as advertised for me. Also, when I call someone and rest the phone on my shoulder, my cheek starts pressing buttons. Very annoying.

All of that said, I love the android apps and the size of the screen which makes me not want to give that up.

The website is virginmobileusa.com they have the info there. You can buy the phone form them online, or from other retailers. I know Radio Shack, Wal-Mart, Best Buy sell VM phones. I have it charged automatically each month to my credit card on file, just like the Verizon contract was.....it's just half the amount.

You can port your number from Sprint. Just make sure your contract has expired and you've dropped to month to month so you don't have to pay an early termination fee.

I have a LG Optimus S and it is powered with Android OS. It's an "entry level" Android phone. My parent's have the same phone and found it very user friendly. It does not have a QWERTY keyboard that slides out, the keyboard is on the screen and comes up when needed. Just pointing that out because I know some people do not like phones that do not have a built-in keyboard.

DH and I both have the Samsung Epic. It is one of the high end phones, but there are sales on it. We got them Black Friday for $99 apiece. Amazon Wireless has them for $99 right now (that seems to be the standard price on that website), but when we upgraded they only could do new accounts, not sure if they can do upgrades now or not. If you want the Epic or Evo just keep looking at Radioshack, Bestbuy and Sam's Club or Costco because they offer good deals for short periods of time.

ETA: The Epic is great, it has a slide out keypad and is like having a mini laptop.

We have had Sprint for almost a year and I've been very happy with their plan, we have a family plan with unlimited txt, data messaging and mobile to mobile on any carrier, free nights/weekends and 1500 anytime minutes to share. We have never come close to using up all our minutes, since most calls that we make are to cell phones. 3 lines and we pay $150/month, but that is with DH's discount through work.

I have the Palm Pixi which I will never regret! It is not as large as most of the Droids,(fits in my pocket and my small hands) So easy to navigate and I primarily use my phone for FB, texting, email and DIS!! It was definitally cheaper than a Droid but offers basically all the same functions.

I am eligible for an upgrade in May and have been debating a Droid myself. I'm hesitant because the ones I've seen in the store are alot bigger/bulkier than what I'm used to. Don't know if I'll really like it.

Hope this helps with your decision!

I don't mean to highjack the thread, but I was considering changing to the palm pixi due to my need for buttons. Is there anything you don't like about it? How is the availability of apps?

Love Sprint. I've been with them for 13 years now :scared1:. My new EVO Shift 4G should arrive today. I upgraded my blackberry curve (which I have HATED the whole time I've had it). I can let you know in a few days if I've found a new love or not :)

ETA - I went with the shift because I need the slide out keyboard for typing (just a personal preference there) and it is a bit smaller than the original EVO. I wanted an Android based phone and this one fit my needs perfectly :)

BTW, I was schooled in a thread I started about the EVO a while back that the "Droid" is what Verizon calls there Android phone. Android is the operating system, so sprint phones are not called "droid", they are....whatever their name is (i.e. Evo Shift), but use the Android operating system.

I can't say that there is much about the Pixi that I don't like. If I had to pick, the battery life isn't as long as I'd like it, but there are days when I use it often for FB, txt etc. I'm not huge on apps, but the sprint catalog is pretty extensive and I've got a few games (angry birds..) The keypad is small, but the buttons are raised and click when pressed. If you don't have super huge hands it shouldn't be a problem.

I prefer a phone with a small profile, slim design. Pixi fits in my pocket and it's just kinda cute. You can Youtube search and watch tutorials. Good Luck!

It is a bit of adjustment over the Rant that I had previously. I am getting used to everything being touchscreen (including the keyboard), and love that the screen is big enough to surf a bit, and watch the free version of Sprint TV. Battery life is not great, but that is the trade off with an Android phone. One thing I am looking forward to trying out on our next WDW trip is the Wifi hotspot option on this phone- for 30/month (no contract necessary), you can use this phone to get onto the internet with your Wifi enabled devices, like the ipod touch, laptop, etc. We could just turn on this service for our trip, so I can use my ipod touch online in the hotel room, parks etc. Our family plan is 130 for two lines, with 1500 shared min, unlimited texts & data, unlimited calls to any other cell from any carrier, plus we get a discount from DH's employer.
