Springtime Surprise 2026 (Apr 16-20)

For any of you running Springtime Surprise for the 5th time this year wouldn't be nice if the surprise this year is that runDisney will recognize any perfect runners! I have to be honest I ran it the first two years simply because I thought there would be an opportunity to be perfect for a race/challenge. When it came out that runDisney was not recognizing STS I decided to pretend I had not heard that and have stubbornly help out hope and kept coming back. But if it is only a dream then it is time to initiate the Official Unofficial Springtime Surprise Perfect Club!

I’m holding out hope too!

Anyone else living in this deep freeze? I have never trained through a winter this cold before. It’s going to get to -28c/-14f today. Hopefully this isn’t like this too much for this training plan. I prefer to do my long runs outside for more adaptation and not as boring as the treadmill. What is everyone’s treadmill tips for doing long runs on there? I usually listen to podcasts on my shorter treadmill runs. I am doing the challenge and it’s my first challenge so making sure I stick with the training plan. Any tips for making treadmill running go faster and enjoyable is appreciated.

I train on a treadmill most of the time. I often watch football, or I may pull up a YouTube video of a race I'm training for. But mostly I save guilty pleasure content that I only allow myself to watch on the treadmill. For me that's a random Housewives franchise or Outlander, mostly.

Having something to watch definitely helps a lot. I've been doing more treadhill/indoor bike recently due to a lingering ankle issue, it it got much better when I started putting on shows. When I have to go to the gym, I'll download a few episodes on my iPad and watch that way.

This is exactly what I do, as well. When training for SS weekend 2 years ago, I watched all of Vanderpump Rules. :rotfl: I'm happy the last season of Outlander will drop in March when I'm doing all my long runs before this year's SS.

Yup. 1 mile away from the Chicago city limit. I'm actually trying the 12 week Nike Run Club HF training program. I used Galloway's for the last Wine&Dine HF in October. Want to change things up a little this time. I have a HF coming up in April in Chicago and then the official Chicago Bank of America HF in June. After the Wine & Dine I took a month off to deal with a calf/ achilles injury but am now back in the full swing. It was -10 this morning. I did invest in some winter gear this year but when it's too cold out it's treadmill time. I was supposed to do a 10k this morning but I had some technical issues and hard stop at 7 so I could only get in 5 miles.

Our gym has great treadmills with large touchscreens. You can log into various streaming services, which my wife likes. Personally I can't watch anything on a screen that close to my face. I'll end up tripping and making someone's instagram reel as a running fail. I watch what's on the overhead TVs, which is usually ESPN and the local morning news shows but don't really follow along.

I opened an account with Audible last fall and listen to audiobooks. I paid full price but they do have specials. I love this. I was listening to podcasts but grew tired of them. I like true crime and while I certainly listened to some great ones I also found that I lot of them could've been condensed. I also wasn't a fan of having to take my phone out and fast forward through the commercials. I love hands free running and this has been one of my best purchases. During the Wine & Dine I actually was able to download and start a new book during the race too.
