Our break is early this year - last week of March. Considering making the drive from Michigan to either Orlando - no disney, thinking Aquatica, Sea World, beach, etc..., or Gatlinburg which would give us more time to see sights and do activities because of less travel time. Not flying because spring break costs. Have also looked at a cruise but have never cruised before and that is feeling overwhelming...suggestions? Thoughts? Dd only request was activities to do and the ability to swim either in a pool or water park.

I wouldn’t cruise at that time if you’ve never been. Gatlinburg/pigeon forge has plenty of hotels with indoor pools, which is what you would need at that time of year. There’s plenty to do there and it’s much closer for you.

I'm planning to do a Disney free spring break this year in Florida. We've been going to St. Pete beach and Disney every spring break for years. But I'm mad at Disney right now.

I think this year spring break is the first week of April for us. I'm in MD, so we're planning for a 900 mile drive in one day. I think we'll do St. Pete beach for 5 days and then 5 days around Orlando. I'm planning on a hotel with a water park. We'll do Gatorland zoo, Cape Canaveral, Deleon springs, maybe an airboat ride. I'm thinking classic central Florida tourist traps.

Definitely Gatlinburg with those two choices. We're about 12 hours from WDW and Michigan is another 5+ hours (depending on where) north. So you're looking at 17 hours... that's one EXTREMELY long day or two days. You've just lost 3 if not 4 days out of 9 (Assuming Sat-Sun). And that doesn't account for weather.
