I just booked our room for next March. This will be our first trip during Spring break and was wondering how far in advance I should start looking for plane tickets. We fly out of ORD (Chicago) and usually use AA, and currently there are no super saver fares available for non-stops for any March 2010 dates on AA. Does anyone know if they will open these fares later in the year?

TIA
Lisa

We're going for our 7th time during spring break, April 17th-24th 2010.
I checked the Airline prices and schedules the minute they became available.
I was o.k. with both the price $239 per person and the schedule non-stop roundtrip from Boston to Tampa. Going to Tampa instead of Orlando non-stop that week saves us $1,400 need I say more.
So last week the minute our airfare became avialable I booked our airfare with Delta $717 for the 3 of us roundtrip non-stop April 17th-24th 2010.
Good Luck All,
Joe

It helps if you know what the airlines have charged in the past; however, I seem to recall getting some decent fares by booking early in December.

You mention AA ... are you also monitoring and/or considering some of the low-cost airlines who offer direct flights?

If you are going down one of the weeks that wrap Easter, you may want to book sooner rather than later.

I do have to say that once Christmas is past, a lot of people start thinking about Spring Break.

Really hard to say, but I'd try to get a number in your head and when you see it, book it.

We're also from Chicago!! We just booked our trip to Disney for Spring Break next year because we never seem to be able to get good airfares to Orlando if we wait too long. We also usually use AA but they did not have great fares. We ended up booking on United and were able to get a nonstop for $197 round trip per person.

We fly out of Milwaukee but I usually buy when I can find tickets under $200 and times that fit...

We book and don't look again:thumbsup2

I've already bought my tickets for Spring break in April(2-11) next year--$206 one-stop there and non-stop on return:banana:

If you're traveling in March, I would not recommend booking tickets until January. $49/$59/$69 (each way+ tax) fares are typical at that time of the year. If you buy now you will pay too much. It's not like they're going to run out of seats on the Chicago-Orlando route; there are thousands of seats daily. Monitor the fares between now and then and if one of those fares pop up go ahead and buy it, but at $200 rt you'd best wait, IMO, from years of experience as a travel agent.
