Spreading ashes in WDW

Several years ago there was a fellow on one of the Disney discussion groups know as The Old Troll----he was particularly known for extraordinary puns.
Anyway, when he passed unexpectedly, it became known his ashes had been spread at WDW. When I asked "where," I was given the obvious answer....The Old Trolls's ashes were spread at Epcot under the bridge between France and England......duh, where else would he be but under a bridge!! :cool1:

It is illegal to dispose of cremated human remains (it is not ash -- it is pulverized bone) on private property without the permission of the property owner.

Does this mean I would have to buy a DVC membership to get my own permission as 'the owner?'

JUST KIDDING... but it's a great loophole!

So if you don't like the person do you dump their ashes in Small World? Imagine hearing that song for all eternity! :rotfl:

LMAO :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Go for it!! My Dh has always said to dump his ashes where we love the most...well that would be WDW.....I would totally do it :flower: . Better someones natural ashes than someones contaminated cigarette ashes!!

I know that several people have said how this thread has made them feel creepy and up until a few months ago I myself might have agreed. However, last November I had the privilege (and yes that's exactly how it felt) to help a close friend of mine (actually a DISer too) spread some of her husband at my parents lake house. My friend is placing her husband in various spots that were special to them. I am not very familiar with creamation and didn't know what to expect, but I found it very comforting and not at all gross or creepy. My DD (she's 8) also participated as she is close friends with my friends DD (also 8). We all knelt down on the dock and took a handful of our loved one and spoke a few words and gently held our hands out over the water. It was very beautiful and moving. The remains were mostly fine ash, but there were some larger fragments as well. I also know there is a little of him resting at the World as well. My partner was present for all of this, but was not near as comfortable or touched and did not actively participate (she wouldn't touch the ashes), but sat on the dock with us. I just thought this was a good example of how something can be so different for various people.

Hi there,

I see many people wonder about the process of cremation. I will now give you an informed indication of the practicalites of the final steps. So do not read on if you don't want too.

Firstly, your dead and the spirt has left your body.

When the casket is placed in the oven, the temp reaches 1000 oc within minutes.

Depending on the type of casket and you body mass it generally takes 40 mins.

Then suction draws the ash and bits into a tray

The tray is placed in to a machine, like a tumble dryer with granite balls inside to crumble the final small fragments. These fragments are generally from ball and socket joints.

Then you are finally placed in a urn.

I KNOW THIS TO BE TRUE

PS: I want to be scattered within WDW.

I don't mean to question your knowledge, but that sounds like the Deluxe cremation. What about the Value cremation? I'm fairly certain we rented my brother's casket as he wasn't going to need it for all eternity. I suppose it's too late to call back and apply an AP code now.... ;)

Wouldn't it be wild to leave them in HM? :rotfl:

"Final arrangements can be made...." :rotfl2:

I don't think they say "Final arrangements can be made..." any more. I am guessing they got a few requests. :confused3

I can see scattering ashes outside somewhere at WDW, but in a ride? Even the Haunted Mansion gets cleaned out, and so the ashes end up in a dump...

I feel as the OP had said,
it's the idea of leaving the ashes that gives them resolution. ;)

Unfortunately there is no such thing as permanent. Even if you're buried, you'll just return to the earth. In a lake you'll still end up dispersed. But hey, it's not like you'll really care. :cloud9: The rituals of death are for the living and knowing where you'll end up (if only for awhile) can be a comforting thought.

I totally agree with this. I too would like my ashes spread at the Happiest Place on Earth. I have already told my DD and DNce this. With all the chemicals and toxins we inhale on a daily basis I don't think anyone's ashes to going to make a difference. Its the thought that counts. I wouldn't hesitate to do this for a friend and my DD has promised me she would do it for me. :wave2:

I couldn't agree more! ::yes::

I have thought about this too, not quite sure what I think about it, but the thought has crossed my mind. I guess it wasn't an original thought.

I'm almost surprised Disney hasn't found a way to make money off of it! Maybe an "Eternity You Way Package"!

:grouphug: Sounds like you may have found another way for all us disers to all be together forever. :cheer2:

It does happen, and Yes it is illegal. Some urns have been found and returned to the family. Some have been caught and escorted off the property by the authorities.

I love WDW as much as anyone but this is not my idea of a final resting place.

Boy, this thread makes me think twice about walking barefoot on the beaches down there at Disney. :)
