Spreading ashes in WDW

I'm slowly scattering my mom around the world. She always wanted to travel when she was alive and never got to, so I take film canister size amounts of her everywhere I travel. I've scattered her ashes in Australia, Germany, several states, and one dramatic bunch tossed off the Great Wall in China! None at WDW yet though.

That being said, be aware that I recently heard (on another Disney discussion board about this very thing) that inside the urn of "ashes" is an identification tag that, if found, can be led right back to the person to whom the remains were given. I'm not sure how big that tag is but I would ask the funeral director or the crematorium director before going ahead and dumping the entire contents of the urn.

The tag our crematory uses is about 1" in diameter. Plus our State has a tag that is issued also. However, in circumstances where the family is going to scatter, these tags are kept in the permanent file at the funeral home. If the human cremated remains are placed in a cemetery then the tags are affixed to the urn.

And as far as the amount of the cremains, this all depends on the bone density, not the size of the person.

WD Searcher: I think that is a lovely idea!

Re illegalities: ashes to ashes and dust to dust...small amounts of someone's remains aren't much different than a handful of sand or ash from a cigarette.
Certainly, the 'remains' are completely sanitized. I'm sure if you asked permission , you would get a resounding no. But if you are private (like renting a pontoon boat) or just taking a walk at night along the bay....I can't see how it could harm anything or anyone.

As for dropping a bit of mom in the Haunted House....I imagine they do sweep at least occassionally!!!. And the waters of the Laughing Place and POC are filtered...But then, it is really symbolism anyhow.

Yep, although I already have two places to scatter my remains...I think I will have to add one more....SEven Seas Lagoon seems like a great idea! Now off to write that living will!!!!

OK am I the only one who is seriously creeped out thinking about ppl's remains being at WDW???

I never thought of this...I was recently thinking of how/where I would choose to be layed to rest and was thinking of cremation also.

Besides the legalities, it is a nice idea for a Disney fan. Your family gets together to remember you and your love of Disney at the Happiest Place on Earth. It's a nice thought and not nearly depressing as a funeral. Too bad the Leave a Legacy walls couldn't have little "drawers" built into them...you could get your loved ones name engraved and leave a little bit of them at their favorite place. -- Those things look like giant headstones anyway so the "drawers" would have fit right in! :rotfl:
My turn to say, Ewwwwwwwwww...

You live in Orlando for gosh sakes! What are you waiting for?!?! JK :rotfl:

I live less than 10 minutes from WDW. Feel free to dump the remains of your love ones in my yard. They will be close to WDW and no one will know because everything around me is sand anyway.

My mother in law lived in Orange County, CA most of her life and her second home was Disneyland. After she died, my husband took a small amount of her ashes and put them in a hankerchief (sp?). Then we went to Disneyland and as he was leaning over the railing right infront of Tom Sawyers Island, he took the hankerchief out like he was going to blow his nose, and let the ashes fall into the water.

It felt really special. We know his mom would have felt (or did feel) happy to know part of her would always be there. :earsgirl:

Wouldn't it be wild to leave them in HM? :rotfl:

"Final arrangements can be made...." :rotfl2:

No, you aren't alone. It's creepy. While in theory, I understand the idea but the reality is that it is irresponsible and somewhat self centered to want your remains dumped in a public place when everyone knows that it is not allowed and illegal. It is illegal for a reason.

To have such a caring child as you would be wonderful! My husband and I have plans that are very similiar (ah the film canister club!).

Just think when the hurricane winds blow the ashes can wind up in Gatorland or who knows where else! :rolleyes1

Just asking.....I know that bone meal (from cows) can carry mad cow disease to humans--through inhalation or cuts in the skin, I guess....I grow roses, and I used bone meal before I knew about the risk. It has been well-documented that this can happen.

So, could anything be spread through human remains??? I don't know.

Scattering ashes is MESSY if there is any breeze at all. I found that out the hard way when the wind shifted direction on me while I was standing on the side of a mountain scattering ashes. A lot of my brother ended up going down the drain in my hotel bathroom, when I had to wash all of the ashes off of my hair and skin.

If you're going to try to do a stealth scatter anywhere, do it by teaspoon-size amounts. Any more than that and it will be noticed. Trust me on this.
(I actually had permission, but it was a public place, and when the wind shifted other people ended up catching some of the blowback. Not fun to have to apologize for.)

I couldn't help but think about having toddlers at WDW and how they put everything from dirt to sand to who knows what in the mouths when you are not looking. Now that thought is really creepy.

FERALPEG You always have the cutest gift images in your siggy:) I assume you make them. Do you have a web page or somewhere to order them from?

But bone meal is not cremated, just ground. The high heat of cremation destroys anything infectious.
And to those of you who are creeped out, well I've got some bad news for you. There have been numerous surrepticious spreadings already.

I was wondering the same thing. FERALPEG feel free to PM me with the answer if it is not allowed to be posted.
