Short story is, my wife and I are are very light skinned. Our next trip we want to take part in the photo package Disney offers at the Poly. We want to be darker for our pictures but have a few questions about spraytanning and I am am having issues getting straight answers from the two ladies I have spoken to at two different tanning salons and the folks in my life. So I am looking for folks with first hand knowledge.

1) We will be at WDW Sept 25-Oct 5, so it will still be hot. Will the dye be streaking off of us as we sweat? (this is the most important question)

2) We will get the pictures on our second day we are there, so the tan will be on us for 3 days. I hear they last 5 days, is that true and will there be a notable difference between day 1 and day 3?

3) What is the best application system?

4) And, will the spraytan really make that much of a difference?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I go to the tanning salon where I live 1-2 times a week & have been in the spray tanning booth 4 times. I sometimes go into a bed first & spray next to kind of "Lock-in" that tan. (I am med complexion) Here's how it works for me

1. They tell me to exfolliate before going that day. (I use bath gloves that I purchased from walmart to do this)

2. When I get there, I put a shower cap on my head, step into the booth, spray front, wait for beep turn around & spray back. after I get sprayed I come out & wipe/pat myself down with a terry cloth or paper towel to get rid of any excess wet dye. I'm to wait 5 hours before I shower. This is so the dye has time to set on your body

3. When I do finally shower that late evening, I can see some of the tanning lotion run off in the shower, no big deal as I've still got color & no streaking because by this time it has set.

4 And yes it'll last for about 5 days. And unless your sweating from the moment you leave the salon you should not be streaking. It's a dye that gets absorbed into your skin. Day 3 you should still look good.

5. Be careful because your knees & elbows tend to tan darker so there is a lotion that I apply before getting sprayed. (and sometimes I forget, again no big deal for me)

6. Do not exfolliate during the 5 days as to not scrub away your tan.

7 Places to watch out for...the webs of your fingers & toes remember to wipe in between there when you come out. Sometimes the dye will settle there & it looks funny.

8. The best system? The best spray tan is to get it done by an individual with the spray gun. My daughter just had this done & she loved it cost her $30.00. I use the shower-like tanning booth & don't really know if it's got a name all I know is it doesn't leave me orange and works great & it cost $20.00

Just ask someone at your salon & they should be able to assist you. We all have different complexions so we could both use the same tanning spray but come out looking very different so be careful.

My irish, light skinned, husband just started going to the tanning bed last week; he is building up his tan gradually for next weeks trip to Disney, so far he looks like he has some nice color. Definitly ask around & check with your local tanning salons. Good luck! :)

I did this once before my Oct. trip, and it looked good for about 2 days. The 3rd day it looked really bad!! I will never do it again for a trip. I hope you have better results.

I have done it several times, and you shouldnt have a problem until around the 5th day when it looks like you are peeling....usually around that day I can rub the spray tan off and its not very attractive looking.

I did the spray tan once and will never do it again.

I am a HEAVY sweater, so obviously I started sweating right away after having it done. Those were the places it didn't stick right. I'd also find myself finding tan color stains on places in my clothes where I sweat (lower back for example.) So not worth it.

It lasted maybe 3 days tops and wore off REALLY uneven.

As a pale person, I'll tell you what I do. Regular ol' self-tanner. Nowadays they make you look tan and not orange. The difference between these and a salon spray tan is that the self tanner is NOT a dye. It reacts with your skin to make your actual skin turn to tan color - so it doesn't really come off. And it fades more gradually and naturally looking.

We leave next Friday, so I've been doing my self tanner already!

Some I like:

-For the gradual, "build a tan" type of product I really like Lancome's Glow Sensuelle. Gradually turns me a tan color that I really like. It is pricey, but worth it. (Although not really for guys, as it has a subtle shimmer to it when the light hits your skin.) I had previously tried the Jergens kind that's supposed to slowly develop a tan. Didn't do one darn thing. At all. Total waste of my money.

-For a regular self tan product that gives you more color in just a few hours, I've used L'oreal tanning wipes for years. You just wipe it on. Make sure to go over certain areas in a good alternating pattern (meaning, wipe in circles and in streaks, so you don't miss any spots.) this stuff makes me look tan fast, but not fake.

Good luck!

I went to Myrtle Beach last month with a fabulous spray tan. It did fade fairly quickly, especially after a dip in the pool. It kind of got bleached.

I am going to get a spray tan on Thurs. for our Disney trip on Friday. I have had both the individual who sprays you, but most recently, I went to a booth called VersaSpa. My friends went and got one once they saw mine. I did not notice any ugly after effects, it just sort of faded away.

I have had it done twice, the first time with better results. I wanted it done for my wedding, so I tried it out a few weeks in advance. The first time I did everything right, exfoliated the night before, applied lotion to dry areas like knees and elbows, etc...

The tan looked great, it lasted about a week, and faded gradually, didn't peel off.

The second time it was the day before my wedding and I was rushed. I didn't exfoliate and it looked "splotchy". It peeled on my back and flaked instead of fading. I never saw it on my clothes or bed sheets though.

I would suggest trying it in advance since it looks like you have some time. Maybe try a couple different methods to find one that works for you.

One warning if you try to do-it-yourself: do it WAAAAYY before you go to bed. When I did it myself with a spray and went to bed an hour later, it ruined my comforter.:headache:
