Hi all..I was wondering if any of you all get spray tans? I live in Florida and always baked all summer and winter...This year I wanted to try something different and try to save my skin, so I got a spray tan today. It was kind of expensive and so far...I'm not seeing a tan..:rotfl: I was wondering how long it takes for your tan to develop, how long it lasts and how much it was.
The system I was in was a huge space ship looking capsule that talks to you. It's all open and the spray is sucked out the back, so there is no choking fumes, and it even dries you...it was pretty neat..I'm also glad I left the unit quick, because it cleans itself as well and the water started coming down the walls...eeek...:rotfl:

My DD14 spayed tan for the first time last week and when she came out I didn't see anything, I was freaking out. The woman said it was instant. I went to them and said if I don't see a tan soon you will be hearing from me. Well when she got up the next morning. OMG she was so dark and the bad thing was she didn't keep her arms up enough so it didn't reach there. Can you imagine what that looked like. She came running downstairs screaming. She scared the crap out of me:scared1: . I did everything I could not to laugh:lmao:
It was a sin and I know it was not funny. So I ran to the store and bought tanning cream and did that until it blended. Hopefully she'll learn from her mistake and keep her arms up next time.
You should see a difference in the morning.
By the way. my SIL went 2 days later and had it done and she had no problems her tan came out even, Thankfully she is in a wedding this week. That would have been a sight.

Like the pp said, you'll probably see some color in the morning. It can take anywhere from a few hours to an overnight.

so how does this all work? I'm just picturing the Ross disaster- where he was very dark on the front & nothing on the back......:lmao: .....do you spin around, if you lift your arms up aren't you getting your palms, what about the back of your arms? what about your hair? does it leave you 'orangy'?
sorry to highjack your thread, just curious on the 'ins & outs'....what is the average $$? TIA :goodvibes

My color is starting to show. I paid 14 dollars, but I had a coupon..it costs 20 without. There are 3 levels of color at the salon I went to. The machine you step in, and stand on a line on the floor of the machine, and push the button and it talks to you and tells you all of the different positions to get into. There was also a picture on the wall. I'm not a thin woman..LOL. :lmao: so this was a little more dignified than standing there in my bathingsuit, while some 80 pound high school student sprayed me. I was all alone..with the exception of the peanut gallery, my two girls, who had a few comments along the way. Of course, they had to ask why mommy was nekked...LOL and why I had on the funny hat..
I wore one of their disposable shower caps. I brought my own, but I used theirs and saved mine. Also the way you pose, the spray didn't hit the palms of my hands. Also they had wipes there, so when I was done, I wiped my fingers, palms of my hands, in between my toes, ankles, knees, elbows and bottoms of my feet. So far...no funny brown patches. The color looks even.
I had to laugh...I'm a blonde, so my summer goal is always to be darker than my hair...I'm almost there...LOL

I use mystic tan at my tanning salon. Its $35/session and last about a week. The session itslef takes less than 20 secs. There is a slight color change in the beginning but with mystic it takes about 6-8 hours before its fully developed. Also if you use a maintence system (which includes a gel to use before you get sprayed, a special body wash and lotion) your tan will last longer. My only experience with spray on tans is with mystic so I'm not sure if the results are the same as with another product.

I have read that exfoliating before using any sunless tanner also helps it last longer. I've never done Mystic tan but it's always intrigued me. $35 a session seems pretty steep! I think I might try fake bake, which I read some wonderful things about on a thread on the cruise critic boards (under "cruise fashions and beauty" there's a thread on the 1st page right now called "Sunless Tans" if you care to search it out).

thanks:thumbsup2 I always wondered about the 'spray booths', I've used ALL sorts of the self applied sprays/lotions, I usually have fair luck, but I wonder if the spray booths would be better. (I could maybe pass for a ghost:rotfl: )

My dd does beauty pageants, she is 13 now, I have been sunless tanning her for about 8 years now. Pageants started using spray tanning about 2/3 years ago. Each time she'd compete I'd have to pay $35 for a tan which lasted about a week. I ended up just buying a machine, it cost $99. I now can tan her before we go or whenever she wants to be darker. She isn't one that likes to lay out in the sun, but does like the tan....lol

Also, over the years I have learned, heat helps it darken. I even tested this out. When she was about 6 or 7 I tanned her right before bedtime, I noticed the next morning she was ALOT darker. So I tanned her again during the day, and next day she was tanned but not that dark. So again, I tanned her at night and sent her to bed and sure enough the next morning she was really dark.

I have done this with spray tanning too and gotten the same results. Both professionally and with me doing it. I don't know if this works for everyone or if it just works for her

I've done the mystic tan and for the most part I like it. But I was curious as to where you bought the machine to do it at home? Would you mind sending me a pm or either posting what kind you have and where I can get one? Thanks

Hey CC!!
I do Mystic tan as well. My color shows instantly b/c they use a tinted spray. The actual color develops over a few hours. I love it! I always take my Jergens gradual tan stuff with me to Disney and apply it every couple of days to keep the Bronze Goddess look!!!

When I got married I paid over $100 for an "airbrush" tan. I had stand in a booth nekkid as a jaybird except for my black bikini bottoms...I was BROWN...REALLY brown. But it lasted a LONG time and it looked fantastic and REAL...which I hadn't anticipated. When the kids saw me, Sally said "MissCammie, you look Italian NOW!!!":lmao:

I am a big fan of mystic!!! The sun is NOT our friend.

I ordered one from Sephora, I think it was about $100. It's not an actual machine though, it's more of a portable gun.
