spray on sunblock

I have seen many tips for spary sunblock for the head. And many people asking where to get it. I use a spary sunblock - Coppertone Sport Sunblock Spray - it is a blue bottle. My current bottle is 7 oz., but I think there is a larger size. I get it at Wal-mart and Rite-aid.

I love all the postings, pictures and tips. This has become my DH and my new obsession. After the kids go to bed, we sit together at the computer, sipping coffee (no, nothing too romantic!) and read as many threads as we can. We can not get enough!!

thanks for the info on the spray sunblock. What SPF are you able to find? I'm looking for 50-60 range, as many posters here have recommended using.

I agree with you and your DH on the addictive quality of these boards! They're fun to read and I have really learned a lot of info we'll use on our first cruise in 1 month. Enjoy the boards and happy posting!

BTW, me and my little (but growing) bald spot swear by Neutrogena SPF 30 spray-on. It got me through a 7 day Land/Sea without so much as a pink spot.

We got our spray at eckerd drug store. it's spf 45. i haven't seen any in the 50-60 range however. from what i've noticed that high of an spf isn't really that vital on the ship. but maybe on castaway cay, the sun was brutal when we went and hardly any shade.

Hint: Just read on Debra Wills All Ears Newsletter that someone wrote in that (according to their Dr.) sunblock doesn't begin to work until 30 mins. AFTER it is applied.

PS. Spray on sunscreen is great for my DH's growing baldspot, too. As my dad used to say, "Grass doesn't grow on a busy street!"

Also, we use a sport sunscreen so perspiration and pools don't rinse it off.

We (myself, DW, DD, two DS's) used the spray-on type at Castaway Cay -- SPF 35 -- with great results. We're all fairly light skinned and had no burns at all. Ironically, after we got back from vacation, idiot me went to my FIL's pool and got burned there!

My boys were in the water about an hour and suddenly remembered that they had no desire to bathe in salt water and wanted to get back to the ship as soon as they could. Oh well, so much for the snorkeling equipment!

I have not seen it in spray but I know Coppertone has a 70SPF lotion. It's in a gray bottle. I was at a training day for a walk I was working at and they were emphasizing putting on sunscreen and applying it often. I brought up that Coppertone had this 70 and she said you really only need up to 30, the higher ones usually don't matter. I don't know if that was true or not but she was an RN.

I just bought that spray on at Costco - it's a bit bigger than the bottles you see at the drug stores and it was $7 - hope it works!

I read the same thing recently in a magazine (can't remenber which one though!). I think that reapplying it regularly is the real key. Even the waterproof and rub-proof wear off after a while.

WARNING about the spray on-- don't forget to rub it in, and also, don't apply it in even slightly windy conditions!! We learned the hard way!! We had polka dots where the spray went on and blistery burns where we missed. It was tough to tell where we'd sprayed it and where we hadn't.

I just read the same thing also - three times this past month - once in "Children" , once in "Parenting" and another time in "Ladies Home Journal"...sure they get it all from the same source.

Living in Florida with 3 blonde fair boys we have lots of sunscreen experience. The spray on is good but as another poster noted you really have to rub it in. For the face and top of ears we really like the sunscreen sticks. Currently we have a Banana Boat Sport Sunscreen stick SPF 30. This one has a handy keychain type clip where you can attach it to a bag or something. I find it is much easier to cover under the eyes and across the nose with the stick. A plastic surgeon recommended it to us when my son had stitches on his face, for a year we swiped his scar with the stick every day to keep the scar from turning darker from sun exposure. Now you can't see the scar at all and we swear by the sunblock stick. It can be hard to find but it is worth the effort.

Isn't it fun?! I love the boards too...this will be my second cruise and I can't wait!

My godson had cancer and his cancer Dr used to always say that SPF 30 was fine, anything higher made no difference and that 30 was just as good....that was coming from a Dr at Sloan Kettering Cancer Hospital.

I had read somewhere on this board about RITguard for your clothing as a suncreen? Is the sun really that strong that it goes through your clothing? Anyone have any experience with it?

I've wondered about the RIT also. We've used the spray by Baby Blanket for years (I've seen it at Toys or babies R Us and speciality stores). We love the sunblankie towelette 45+spf. The spray bottle is really convenient. Thanks for the report on the Neutrogena product - I wondered whether it would be any good since I do wear other products by them but I wasn't willing to pay $8. for a small bottle to not work. There is another spray product I was looking into but I can't recall the name - begins with K that I was going to ask whether anyone had tried it.

I'm back - it's called KineSys. They have a new spray that is fragrance free etc.

We have never used spray or anything on our clothes and have been fine. We are all blue eyed blondes. However the spray sunscreen is great for girls who get the braids done. Either that or bring Q tips to the beach to get the scalp.
