As all this talk about opening the strategic stockpile started, I wondered WHERE the stockpile was located--the Gulf SOUNDED like a logical location as it is closer to the oil rigs, etc. Found the answer on Atlanta's WSB-TV site:
"The government's emergency petroleum stockpile - nearly 700 million barrels of oil stored in underground salt caverns along the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast - was established to cushion oil markets during energy disruptions."
Thankfully they can get to the Texas portions of it at least.
