Spouse listed as "Additional purchaser" so no emails? No MM?

OK so I was on phone with DVC to combine my reservations for December. (now they make you wait a week to do this but fine).

Then I asked about the MM signup problems. I never get the DVC emails. We are blue card. Members since 1995 with various contracts. Currently hold one contract for the blue card benefits, the other is a resale, both at BR (different use years). More background, my husband has never booked DVC in all these years, never has even signed into the DVC website. He just got his first login to anything Disney ever and learned about MDE less than 6 months ago. He goes to Disney only every 2/3 years at most.

So. The DVC cm tells me you won't get any emails because you are listed as an "additional purchaser" and husband is primary (?). What the heck? I said so I am listed as if I was an adult child, or other friend and relative? Yes. Why? No idea. Email member administration. I said is that why my cash room was said to be ineligible for Moonlight Magic at the signup? (Husband not in the room, not coming) Maybe she said.

Has anyone been told this? I am annoyed. Meanwhile husband did not get the emails about MM event either (well he is not in the cash room so maybe that makes sense?) and neither did either of us get the Guardians preview invitation.

Is there a way to make us equals? Or ME "primary"? She said maybe the loan was like that, I said no loan with these contracts and the direct purchase one was ME calling and buying the points and me paying for them. UGH. Was this just more bad information from an uninformed cm?

PS yes we do both have DVC Y on the wallet thing on our phones.

Personally I would call member's administration first thing tomorrow and try and get this straightened out. Is it safe to say that you both are on the deed's?

While I have not been told this, I do know that since I am now lead on all the contracts we currently own (sold the ones which had DH first), I get more emails than I used to. He has no DVC accounts or MDE accounts so everything is my email anyway.

For our purchase, my mom is the primary but we're all listed as owners on the deed. I get all DVC emails, and frequently end up doing most of the special event registrations for my parents (who can't be bothered with tech and only just added their digital cards to their iphones). I don't think we did anything special to ensure I got emails, but chiming in to say (in my experience) not being primary doesn't restrict you from communications -- so they should definitely be able to help you there!

We have the exact same problem as you described and the same issue with lack of communications going to my spouse (the additional purchaser). While I did tease her about her "status", it is annoying that she gets none of the emails either.

I was upset at being designated “additional purchaser” but decided it wasn’t worth the effort.

My problem is he barely goes to disney and I go 3x a year. I just thought we were on there equally. Well Administration will not accept phone calls, email only. So will attempt that for an explanation.

I too am designated as "additional purchaser," but it hasn't made a difference. DH used to book everything when we still had to call in, but ever since the website and online booking came along, I've been the one making reservations and also getting all the emails. DH does have his own DVC login as well as his own MDE account, and so far as I know he's marked to receive email communications from DVC, but they all come to me, not him.

I'm annoyed because I bought it and added my son ... every piece of correspondence comes in my son's name

I am having the same issue. After several calls to member services, the issue is still not resolved. I get some email but not the MM or Guardians invite. It is very frustrating. I am hoping to get a reservation for the 9/28 AK MM. Fingers crossed the lack of email notifications won’t screw me up.

I’m an”additional purchaser” as well, which is just Disney”s way of saying “another owner” on the contract. I wouldn’t worry about it. I’ve always done everything (from buying the contracts to booking the rooms), yet my husband is listed first (making him the “purchaser”). It has made ZERO difference for us, and I honestly think you were given bum info by the CM… oh! & I was also able to book a night at HS’s MM using a reservation with only myself & 2 kids on it… a purchaser is a purchaser. 😉

Thank you, so crazy bad info once again from a CM going rogue with theories. Back to the same old problem of no emails, no MM offers, no ride preview invitations. Because, husband did not get those either. Although how they would even know his email address up until a few months ago, when he finally was forced to get a Disney login for himself (to get the DVC Y thing once the physical blue cards expired.)

I did play on the site a little and found one "communication" option unticked on my spouse's preferences. If you go to MyDVC > My Profile > Communication Preferences and about half way down you will see a link "manage preferences" . Clicking on it sends you to an external site with all your current mail preferences. About half-way down on this page - under "Disney Parks & Businesses" heading - there is a check box for DVC. On my "additional purchasers" profile - DVC was unchecked for communications.

I had the same issue as a new DVC member even though I'm listed solo on the deed. Was wondering why I wasn't getting any new promotional emails until I found this. I guess I had opted out of these communications on my Disney account (years ago?) and was never prompted to re-enable after joining DVC.

Not sure there has traditionally been such a thing. When my then-husband and I bought, I wasn't on the deed. I was whatever they call an authorized user. We each were able to open our own accounts, though he never did. Or I opened his and just used it as though I were him. But I don't think they have a space for "adult child, other friend and relative" unless you've listed them as whatever they call the authorized user.

FWIW the one time I went to a moonlight magic while still married (when traveling with my cousin for rundisney), I just listed him on the room so there were no issues.

They have some major back-end email issues in the world of disney overall. I have the same email for all disney accounts, but rundisney suddenly decided I didn't. They found some ancient email that I had changed from TO my current email and decided it was messing things up. Later on I found out that hulu and disney+ emails somehow get connected as well, so if you've used different emails for those (if you have them) it messes it all up. You need to get someone to really do some digging, and check out any subscriptions you might have for things owned by disney, I think.

Thank you for this. With three separate phone calls to member services in the last month trying to solve this issue, they never asked to check my husband's preferences. My husband is the lead purchaser and I am the additional. He didn't have the DVC box checked. Hoping we start to get emails.

Just checking back in this thread, I will have to see what my husband's preferences are concerning DVC emails. He just got a Disney login in February of this year, (I always did everything). For me, it looked like I had DVC email checked, but the CM on the phone said on her end, it was defintely NOT clicked. WEIRD. So I unchecked all, and then checked all and she said now she sees it checked off. Makes no sense.

We ran into this as well. I am the one that pays the loan (one more year - yay!), the one that put the down payment down, etc. For some reason that we did not look into at the time, only his name is listed as the primary and I am the additional. We are now 5 years divorced and still can't get it cleared up. Since it is in a loan, until it is paid in full we cannot have his name removed and unless someone else is paying the legal part to do so, it is easier to wait it out until the load is complete next September. We do have it in our Agreements at least, but after all the money I have spent and to not be able to be a main person on this, when every single thing is in my name and my bank accounts...is frustrating. I have talked to many team members as well as the title companies. Thank goodness for amicable divorces lol. I hope you guys have better luck that I have. I was hoping to get emails for MM registrations since I have reservations for August at Animal Kingdom but I haven't seen much of anything.

I put down the deposit and started all the funding and yet my partner was listed as purchaser and I was additional. It actually really annoyed me! In the eyes of the law though it just means both of you own equally. I called MS and asked them to put me as lead as I wanted the communication thank you very much. They then swapped it. When I log on to my profile I am listed as purchaser.

I depends how the deed is set up. I am the primary owner and Husband and daughter are additional owners. Strangely when we purchased in 2005 husband was a CM and we got a cast discount on our first contract. But, I’m the lead And we still got the discount because he’s on the deed. all three of us get emails from dvc. We all three have MDE and dvc accounts setup and have had them. My husband & daughter only use their MDE accounts, but I’ve logged into all three dvc accounts from time to time.
