I know National allows the spouse to drive at no additional charge, as we've rented with National in the past. I think I read there is another rental car company that also allows this. I'm sure someone here knows. Thanks for the info!

We're Budget Fastbreak members, and spouses are allowed to drive with Budget--not sure if you ahve to be a Fastbreak member for this though.

We got that last year free with Alamo and we are not Quicksilver members.

If you used a Sam's Club or BJ's or couple of other codes, it allows for a free additional driver.

I am AAA member and Gold club with Herz. DH is not in any of the clubs. I do not drive when in vacation. If I reserve the car in my name, can DH drive?

I noticed manning mentioned Hertz if I am AAA, but my understanding is that it only applies when DH is also AAA member.
I am not sure whether being a Gold Cluib member will let DH drive.

thanks

Both have to be members. An associate membership is $19.00.

Also if you have Diners Club, use that to pay for the rental. Their auto insurance coverage is primary.

I won't be driving, therefore technicaly it is not adding a second driver.
Before I joined any of these clubs, I had always reserved cars in my name but never drive. DH never mentioned adding a second driver fee.

The reservation has to be in the name of the person driving. Otherwise you will need to pay or arrange for the second driver.

I have used Avis all the time and the spouse always drives for free. Make sure that you choose the car based on the rental rates and if all things are equal then go with the company offering the spouse free driving privileges. National always charged in the past - unless you are an Emerald Club member - it used to be about $25 for the extra driver. Has it changed for everyone? Check the car companies websites to be sure. Their policies are usually listed under "rules."

Just called Hertz.. 1-800-654-3131
Because I am a Gold card member, therefore DH can drive for free.
Only that I have to "pick up" the car, i.e. I have to show up with him when he picks up the car.

Interesting. All the time being a Gold member I didn't know that. I learned something. Thanks
