Spotting crocodiles

Please don't laugh I read a while back about what side of the bus to sit on when going from the airport to WDW to see crocodiles ( or is it alligators?). Does anyone have any idea what I am talking about? If you know what side of the bus is the best in order to see these things please let me know. I can't find the site I read it on. Thanks for your help.

Aligators. You can often see them around ponds and lakes laying in the sun.

If you really want to see them at WDW, go to the Polynesian then walk across the street to Shades of Green. The pond along the walkway up to the resort has a half a dozen or so in it.

Please do not leave the walkway. Do not feed them or approach them. Thanks!

There was quite a large one in the waterway near the quiet pool at the Beach Club Villas too back in September.

Yikes! I've never seen them on site before. I always get an eerie feeling walking along the water from MGM to the Boardwalk.

Does Disney do anything to get rid of them?

We did a "Behind the scenes Key to the Kingdom Tour" last year and the cm told us that there are at least 2 that live in the lake at MK. He said they try and try to get rid of them they just keep coming back. My dh and I looked but couldn't spot any in the lake. My dh did see one on the way back to the airport but I didn't look fast enough.

There are drainage canals all throughout the property. The alligators use those to access the other lakes and ponds. Disney does do their best to remove them, however they will have to abide by Florida state laws.

My parents live in a golf course community and my dad is a past member of the board. They have many alligators around and I believe that according to state law, they cannot be removed unless they either reach a certain length or become a nuisance animal. I'd imagine Disney follows the same rules and can only remove certain ones.

I am sure it is through the drainage system. I don't want to get close enough to find out but it would be cool to see one from a distance. LOL

I've seen them everywhere. Of course, living in FL, I know that anywhere there is a natural body of water there are probably alligators.

I would imagine you would need to sit on the right side of the bus to see alligators. Can't say for sure, but that is the only side that makes sense to me.

They aren't allowed to do much until they get to a certain size. Alligators are protected creatures.

When we were picked up by our car service and taken to the Sanford airport, the driver pointed out an area that is frequented by tons of alligatiors/crocodiles (cant remember which). We were lucky and did see some in the water. Dont know exactly what body of water (it was off property), but he said there are literally tons in that body of water. It was on the left side of our car going back to the airport.

DH and I were waiting to board a boat to take us from TTC area to Fort Wilderness to see the Hoop De Doo a few years ago. A small aligator was swimming right up to the dock. There were some ducks in the pond and I think it was planning to have one for dinner. The duck got away though. DH was fascinated because being from central Texas, he had not seen alligators in the "real world" before. I grew up in SC and spent a lot of time at the beach so I had seen them many times. They like the lowland swamps near the beach and sometimes go in the intercoastal waterway.

When we were at WDW two years ago, there was a very large one in the water around Tom Sawyer's Island, alongside the walkway in Frontierland. At first the CM's were just warning people not feed it, and then they actually blocked off the walkway so you really couldn't even see it anymore.

We have never seen an alligator during our stay at WDW, however a couple years ago we were on a bus heading to AK and there was a large turtle in the middle of the road, the driver stopped the bus and she went out , picked up the turtle and brought it along for the ride. We assumed, she was going to drop it off at AK as well.

We looked and looked for alligators during our stay at POR 2 years ago. That would have made my middle DS's day! The carriage driver suggested bringing a flashlight and shine it on the waters at POR and we should see the glowing eyes. We will make sure that we bring a flashlight next time.

However, we did go to Gatorland also. My kids LOVED it. Probably won't go this year because of $$$ - or should I say lack of....
