Hi all. I know this may seem like a random question, but I wanted to reach out to the group more knowledgeable than I to see if anyone has suggestions for locations within Hollywood studios – preferably in/near Toy Story Land – that might be quiet enough to do a virtual musical theatre audition. My daughter has a callback scheduled for a day when we will be in the park. Normally, I would say let’s just go back to the hotel room and do the audition from there, but this one happens to coincide with the time of our perfect Roundup Rodeo reservation, which I seriously doubt I will be able to reschedule. So, I am trying to find out if there’s any possibility of doing the audition while we are actually in the park. Would love to hear thoughts from anybody familiar enough with the park to make suggestions for such a place — somewhere that is quiet enough to pull off a zoom call and private enough that she could sing. Thanks,l in advance!!

Yes, not far from restaurant. End of Pixar Place.

When you exit restaurant you take a left then where it ends and normally you go left back to Mickey Runaway, go right. It is a dead end, there is NOTHING there but a few benches to sit on. At the end it has an alcove like space left and right where people wouldn't even see her. The only people down there are resting or the CMs going in and out of their backstage area.

These photos are from that end, DS is on a bench, across way a small step up stage not in use. It is very quiet and fairly human-less. We rest there almost every day we are in DHS and it is a very empty space.

Thank you so much. This would be perfect.

Musical theatre is so competitive. My son is a professional actor. Has done regional theatre. He would not consider doing a callback at a park. He would do it in the hotel room, using as plain as a background as possible, and fixing the room lights to put him in the best light. We actually have a traveling set up we use.

I would be concerned about quality of the audio particularly during her performance piece if it's at all breezy. Breezes pick up on microphones so easily even when you don't realize it in-person.

Wind, lighting, sounds. I mean at home we do retakes if a car goes by. I had a commercial callback last week and had up soft lights and a ring light. My son has a wireless lavalier mic that hooks into a cell phone. The phone can be any distance away and it comes in clear. But not sure that would pick up her music where they would hear.

Also there’s been issues with zoom. Make sure she’s updated to the latest version. They and her can now message while in the waiting room.

I would be concerned with connectivity, internet and cellular. I’ve had issue with both in the park. If this is really important, go back to the room.

As a long-time performer, I would not take the risk on a call-back that kids / environment or weather would distract from my best performance or deter my moving forward in the process. I have sympathy for the situation, but I would do the call-back from a hotel room. So much more is in your child's control.

I fully understand the pros and cons. Just wanted to know what the options were. I have decent equipment I can break down and pack in a backpack if I need to and if she chooses to go with a lesser quality option to preserve the family’s park day. If it were for something professional/semi-professional, we would not even consider it.

If it's important to her, I'd go back to the room and not risk it. What if it starts to rain? What if you find a quiet spot and as you are about to go "live" and another family discovers the same spot - and they have a screaming child? What if custodial goes by with their cart full of trash that makes a lot of noise? So you may have to miss a dining reservation, that would not even factor into my decision. Try and rebook, ask your daughter what is more important? BBQ or her audition?
