Sports: Deflate-Gate

You don't find it odd that only game balls from 1 team had the psi issue? I understand how hometown fans can blindly follow( Hello, Cleveland?), at some point you have to admit that the Patriots are not the most respected organization in the NFL when it comes to following the rules.

Really? I find it funny that so many people are up in arms about this, but seem to have forgotten about the New Orleans Saints. Apparently putting a bounty on players is no where near as horrifying as ending up with under-inflated game balls.

Where has anyone heard that the Patriots have been found guilty of any wrong-doing in this matter? Anyone? All this proves is that people love to knock down those who are doing well. It is more interesting to think that a team is cheating than to admit they are just that talented. And how most people are easily led by the media. Nothing new.

The coach was banned from football for a year.

Those involved paid their penalty. That's over.

Meanwhile, the Patriots right now are heading to the Super Bowl. Would they have still beaten the Colts even if the balls were legal? Yes. What about the Ravens the week before?

If the bounty scandal on the Saints came out after they won the NFC Championship and were heading to the Super Bowl, I'm willing to bet the reaction would be the same.

Plus, on top of this, you have to remember the Patriots were found guilty of taping signs from the opponents. Since paying their penalty and stopping the action, they had not won a Super Bowl (although they did get there once since then). Now here they are in the middle of another possible rule violation the year they are heading to the Super Bowl.

It's a matter of pattern. Team wins 3-out-of-4 championships, discovered cheating, hasn't won since. Now as they a few days away from another championship game, there's another cheating scandal.

Same with spygate but yet that's dragged up to the surface all the time too.

What does the Ravens game have to do with any of this?

They were guilty (and admitted to it) of filming from a prohibited AREA. What other incidents are there that they cheated, in any game?

Actually, this is the 3rd Super Bowl they have been to since then. Many teams never make it to a Super Bowl, and of the ones that do, 50% don't win it.

One interesting thing I read is that the 12.5-13.5 psi limit rule has been on the books for over 75 years. Footballs have certainly changed a lot since then so I am sure the NFL is going to review this "rule" in the off season.

Wrong. They've been to 2 other Super Bowls since spygate. This will be their third since spygate

Same with spygate but yet that's dragged up to the surface all the time too.

Because we are talking about the same team with the same owner, headcoach, and quarterback. If the St. Louis Rams had a bounty scandal, everybody would say "Oh, it's that Gregg Williams again!"

What does the Ravens game have to do with any of this?

Look, based on spygate and deflategate, there is a portion of NFL fans that assume that Patriots have done other things and didn't get caught. The media feeds off that. That's why people are up in arms. As I said, it's the presumption of guilt based on the spygate incident.

If they deflated balls against the Colts, did they do it against the Ravens? Did they do it all year? The argument "well, they would have one against the Colts anyway" doesn't hold up when you are talking to someone who thinks the Patriot organization cheats consistently. Since they only beat the Ravens by four, and won basically in the last minute of the game, the assumption is that if they had deflated balls in that game as well, it's possible they would have lost to the Ravens and would not be heading to the Super Bowl right now.

I'm not saying it's right or fair. I'm saying that's the reality of the situation. There are a portion of NFL fans that are under the impression that the Patriots have shown a pattern of breaking rules and they end up winning. Other teams cheat, but don't win. See: The Cleveland Browns texting scandal this year. They are being investigated for sending messages between the booth and field through texts, which is against the rules. The Browns, however, stink, so the media doesn't spend a lot of time talking about it.

The Saints are another example. Their bounty program started the year they won the Super Bowl. Since then, they haven't done as well. They've won a lot of games, sure, but they haven't won a Super Bowl. If they end up in another scandal, it will look just as bad for them.

Hey watch that Cleveland thing. :lmao: Because we cheer our teams even when they stink (ok, they always stink) don't mean we follow blindly. It means we are loyal and cannot be accused of fair weather or band wagon fans. We're not blind, we know our teams stink. :lmao:

I'm not saying none of that is accurate or arguing with you, just because. I too am trying to make a point by highlighting the facts that because of ONE instance of filming from a forbidden AREA has branded them cheaters, no matter what. They're winning? They must have cheated! Would it be fair to say when the Saints play ANY team and there's a personal foul for a late hit, or hit on a defenseless receiver or roughing the QB that they were motivated with bounty's? What about when the Packers do well (which they did)? Rogers admitted to over inflating, which is still outside of the league requirements. Does that mean they cheated too? Are ALL of their wins now subject? See my point?

Yes I do find it odd, doesn't mean THEY did it or had anything to do with it. Brady is on record saying he prefers the footballs under inflated. Could a ball handler then take it upon himself/herself to help his favorite team out? I had mentioned years ago that I like green bean casserole. Now, on every holiday my MIL makes it, ONLY because I said I liked it. I don't ask for it or even mention it anymore. Mostly because I have grown tired of it because I have it.... EVERY holiday now!

My point is, yes its odd most of their footballs tested under the league guides but it doesn't mean or prove Brady or Belichick did it or even asked for it.

As far as following blindly, I said up thread and I'll say it again, IF they were guilty of doing it then shame on them. I'd feel bad they would have done it but I'd get over it. I wouldn't deny it and act like it never happened.

You can't have it both ways, it takes away from any points you are making.

Other teams have their own scandals and rule bending but if it's the Patriots it's the most awful thing to even happen to football.
This whole deflategate thing is just stupid. It was totally overblown by the media. Very little actual information has come out from the NFL. It's mostly leaks to the media. It's all bunch of hoopla created to bring interest in the Superbowl.
If the NFL had something concrete on either Bellichick or Brady the would have come out with it by now. At this point it's a complete fishing expedition. They are desperately trying to find something to save face. How dumb does the NFL and media look because they let this thing get so big so quickly and it's turning out they've got nothing.

"NFL head of officiating Dean Blandino confirmed today that the NFL didn’t log the exact PSI of each football. According to Blandino, when officials inspect footballs to see if they’re properly inflated, they simply approve them or disapprove them."

Starting to look even dumber. Officials did not keep a log of the football PSI. Starting to sound more and more that the pregame 'inspection' is a joke

Did anyone see the article where the statistician look at the Patriots fumble before and after the rule that Brady, and Manning pushed for in which they could be allowed to prep balls.
Before that Patriots fumbled at something like every 42.9 touches and though one of the better teams in ball control were not at the top. The very year after and onward the team has averaged over 72 touches per fumble and no other team is anywhere in the vicinity of them. So yes I do hope that the NFL looks really closely at this.
I am surprised that no one with really good video/computer equipment has not tried super impose balls from patriots games, comparing ones from each sideline. I am sure there is enough shots(close ups/overheads before snaps) from games and it would be very interesting to see if there was noticeable differences in diameter when superimposed or measure. I mean the only thing thing that would effect the ball size is proper inflation and to me superimposing seems fairly easy these days.

Is there a grasping at straws emoji?
You realize that many QBs pushed for that change, right?
Let's just put it on Brady though. We all know he masterminded the whole change just so he could deflate balls on the sidelines.
I guess Tom Brady is an evil genius.

HMM I heard this somewhere, just a regurgitation of 98.5 sports radio/Felger & Massarotti

How would you explain the change then? I am not saying he masterminded, I am saying there seems to be a very hard to explain anomaly that happened after. This happened to the very same team that suddenly had deflated balls in NFC championship game. Laughing that off I think is wrong.

Oh I don't know, maybe different players? Different drills during practice? Coaches teaching different ways to carry and hold a ball to better protect it?

You said upthread that the Saint paid their penalties so that is over but you keep bringing up spygate.

Because the Saints aren't currently being investigated. I'm talking about patterns. The Patriots being in trouble for spygate and now deflategate is a pattern.

If the Saints got in trouble again, it would be a pattern.

You bring up the Browns and texting issues but that's ok because they don't win.

You misunderstand. I didn't say it was OK. I said the media doesn't care.
