Sports: Deflate-Gate

NFL staff, media, tv reporters, camera operators, sound technicians, photographers.....all of these people are credentialed but not the responsibility of the Patriots.

So it was somebody out of this list that deflated the game balls? You left out emts, security, police, team owners, team sponsors, cheer squads, mascots, tv hair and makeup people. Let's not forget groundskeepers, phone techs, anthem singers, half time entertainers. All have to be credentialed.

Yet, it is still the head coach who is responsible for sideline conduct.

Right. Because all of those people have access to the game balls. ;)

Odd how a coach who is manipulating the eligibility rules on offense claims not to know the rules about game ball inflation. Somebody doesn't appear to be telling the truth.

Why? He was fined heavily for cheating and lying before. As the head coach, he is responsible for the actions of everyone on that sideline. Even though there was the game ball issue at the start of the second half, he claims that he didn't know anything about a game ball issue until Monday. Millions of viewers saw the second half delay, where was he that he didn't see it? Goes back to honesty.

Why? Because you misunderstood what he said. He didn't say he didn't know about rules about inflation...

“I had no knowledge of the various steps involved in the game balls and the process that they went through that happened between when they were prepared and went to the officials and went into the game. So I’ve learned a lot about that.”

I can assure you that police and security guard each team's bench area non-stop from the time the gates open until after the final whistle blows and the teams leave the field. No outsider is going to be able to enter a NFL bench area and monkey with team equipment and escape notice... though I do confess that I was able to cut across the bench area and "steal" a cup of Gatorade at half-time! During the game, credentialed non-team members MUST stay out of the bench areas and behind the dashed line that define the area.

I know. I believe the designated bench area stretches between the 35 yard lines and is about 30 feet deep. It is the people out side of that area that would not be the responsibility of the head coach or the team.

In the team bench area, which doesn't cover the entire sideline.

I know. :) When I go to Packers games, I'm just as interested in what is going on on the sidelines, most of which you never see at home on TV.

Never said they did, just saying that everyone on the sideline is not the responsibility of the team. The NFL itself is involved in policing the non-bench portions of the sidelines.

Yeah, I'm calling ******** on that one. He's been in the NFL for how many years and claims to not know a thing about balls having to be inflated to a certain pressure?

You didn't read it either, did you?

On the plus side for the Pats, the Seahawks are working hard to make people dislike them too!

Marshawn Lynch fined $20,000 for obscene gesture

Richard Sherman starts running his mouth, again!

I think it's safe to say that most people that tune in the Super Bowl will be rooting against a given team instead of for one this year!!!

I've done that before :rotfl:

I read somewhere (can't remember if here or on several of the other sites I'm bouncing between that the conspiracy theory is because ticket prices/sales are 20% lower this year than last, they needed something to boost exposure/interest. Yeah, that's what I'm going with! :joker:

Would you guess that the teams store their 12 game balls, when on defense, within the team's sizable bench area or, say, behind the 10-yard line amongst the photographers and such?

Belichik has denied any knowledge and Brady will admit the same at 4 PM today. Eventually there will be some low level equipment person will admit to the infraction. The Patriots are reviewing game tape to figure out who to name. They don't want to name some guy and then find out he was talking to some cheerleader when the infraction happened. This guy will come forward and say he did it on his own and this was the first and only time it happened. He will be fired and one day will find himself working for Interfor ( A Candian Company Kraft Owned) in some sort of executive position.

As for the Sidelines, many years ago I was the Dallas Cowboys Team Cameraman's assistant for a game at the old Giants Stadium, it was the game Troy Aikemen was intercepted like four times. On the Sidelines at Giant Stadium there are several marked off areas. The players bench area if the most protected area and no one without the correct credentials is getting in that area. From what I can remember there was like three different marked areas.

I'm a big football fan, and I agree!

The two teams I dislike the most are in this year's Super Bowl. I will be watching for the commercials!

Yes, I did.

And you still stand behind your comment?

If so, can you paste his quote where he said he knows nothing about "balls having to be inflated to a certain pressure"?

I thought I read somewhere (online so it must be true), balls that aren't currently being held by the ball boys are stored in a box next to the replay screen.

One would assume they would be in the bench area but that isn't the point. The other poster said the team is responsible for everyone on the sideline, I said I didn't believe that to be true and provided examples.

She was comparing the bounty incident with this one and they are not the same, yet. Sean Payton was suspended because he was responsible for the actions of his coaching staff and players. It was proven that a coach sanctioned the bounty on other players so he was also held responsible. In this case, the NFL has offered no proof that the balls were tampered with, only that they were not inflated to the proper levels, even though they had been inspected before the game and approved. If they prove that the balls were tampered with than the Pats and by default, Bill Bellicheck, should be held responsible and punished appropriately. I am fairly certain that punishment would not be a one year ban for the coach.
