My 13 year old DD runs cross country. She has been wearing a cami with her uniform, but the coach sent home a letter that a sports/running bra was mandatory. Do you think Dick's Sporting Goods would sell these or is there a better place where we could go tonight? And where is the best place to buy a first bra that isn't super padded?

Target. They have a large selection of teen bras and you should be able to get a sports bra -- if not in the kids section, then a small or xsmall in the regular women's athletic wear section.

A second vote for Target...my daughter is a runner and likes the Champion brand from there.

Target has some very nice sports bras in their sports apparel section. I just got DD's cross country sports bra there. They have a few differnt styles too, and lots of colors.

Target, or Kohl's. I think either would be less expensive than Dicks.

Another Target vote. Champion makes a good sports bra that Target sells. My DD plays sports 7 days a wk and practically lives in them. She loves Champion and Underarmor (way too expensive).

Yep, Target, Walmart.

I don't think I've ever seen a sports bra that was padded. You shouldn't have any trouble. Just get the small, or XS.

I am also looking for some regular bras for her, but don't want them super padded like I saw at Penneys the other day. Where do people go for their young teen's bras? I went to Limited Too for my older DD.

Ditto Target or Kohls.

I know Target has a bra section for younger girls..not sure what sizes they have or what your DD would wear but I know they had a lot of unpadded ones at our local Target.

My 10yo needs a sports bra and I got hers at Target. Cheap and good!

another Target vote for sports bras... i get my 13 yr old's in the women's athletic section - Champion brand (size small) - she loves them for playing soccer and softball. For regular everyday bras, we go to Kohl's. Maidenform has a great line for both girls/teens and depending on her cup size the women's Maidenform line has a great selection too. My youngest DD does not like too much padding and we always find a great selection at Kohl's for her everyday wear. I even think they call the line she gets there "the tshirt" bra - something like that. Good Luck!

Like I said above, Target. They have a large selection, ranging from padded to barely there ones.

That's all my DD wears because she cheers & tumbles so they are great for that. We have never tried any from walmart or Target, but that sounds like it may be worth looking into. She is into the crazy design ones that are out now at Dicks. Some are made my Nike & some by Underarmor.

You know, I was just at TJ Maxx not long ago and they had some Underarmor sport bras in there for $20.00, so I bought one for DD.

Kohl's also has them.

I buy mine from UnderArmour and they are really nice, and they don't dig in to my shoulder blades or ribs. Danskin also makes really good sportsbras so worth a check.

I think my DD had some from Target. I agree, they do not need the 'enhancements" most manufacturers seem to add. Does Old Navy still have them? I think she might have had something from there, but not sure.

I always buy my sports bras from Dicks. They have a great selection, but I do prefer the UnderArmour ones. You might find some at a place like TJ Maxx too. Regular bras I get at Macy's. I don't wear the padded ones at all, ever (believe me, that's the last thing I need, lol).

When I find a bra I like (sports or regular) I often check out eBay to buy a few extras. The absolute best online sports bra experts are at Title Nine. A bit pricey, but they have good sales and the quality and brands are awesome. They also have some really great bra stuff at their second site, Bounce. Definitely worth checking out!

One thing about the "enhancements" the girls wear these not for the enhancing feature-most girls anyway, but for the "hiding" feature and not letting everyone know you are cold feature :rolleyes1. Ask your DD.

As for the OP, if your DD doesn't need a sports bra, has been running with just a cami on, assuming she doesn't have much to "support" yet, any running bra is going to be fine. She won't need a "good quality" one. Most of the girls here wear the Champion ones from Target. They have all kinds of bright, neon colors they like and you can usually get them for around $15 or so.

DO check to see if your state has a restriction on what kids can wear under their uniforms. Usually at the middle school level it isn't an issue but at the high school level, here anyway, the kids need to have the same color undergarments if they are visible so all the girls need to have black sports bras, for example. It really comes into play here when it gets colder and the kids are wearing Under Armour--the tops all have to be the same color and the bottoms all have to be the same color-so a team would all have to wear a white top and black bottoms, for example.
