sporting events during August in Orlando?

no problem Night-train, for some reason I thought Simon had posted the dates, oops! on looking back I note it was yourself (I'll put that one down to old age) :-)

we are definately going to go over and watch a game, to St. Pete's, just won't be the Yankees, not to mind, we are looking forward to a day out away from the parks and experiencing some American sport!

I would just choose whichever games fit your schedule better. Oakland and Anaheim have almost identical Won-Lost records, with Oakland currently 1 game ahead.

Thanks Gerry, we're booking the tickets later... do you know if the tickets are sent out, or do you go to their ticket office when you arrive?

Regards

William

You collect the tickets from the stadium on game day at one of the ticket booths. Take your confirmation details with you.

The first time we went I phoned Tropicana Field direct and had them post the tickets out to me. When we went the second time though they told me I would have to book via Ticketmaster and collect the tickets at the stadium.

William, Oakland are one of the hot form teams right now; Anaheim have cooled off a bit after a good start to the season (which is right at the half-way point this week). If Oakland have Mark Mulder pitching for them (and that's a one in five chance!), you will get to see one of the best pitchers in all of baseball right now. Tampa are a young and improving team, BTW, who are showing signs of going in the right direction after being no-hopers for pretty much all of their 7-yeay history!

Does anyone know where I could find out about the Tampa Bay Rowdies soccer team? I am trying to find out if they are playing while we are there (22 July -5 August, Orlando; 5-12 August, Clearwater). Apparently a few ex-Millwall players now play for them which should keep DH happy after all the parks he is being dragged to!!

Thanks

Donna

I can't find any record of them having existed since 1984. All records seem to stop at this point in history so it looks like they are defunct! They certainly aren't part of the MLS as it stands at present.

I'm afraid that's very true. The Rowdies were part of the original American soccer league which died a painful death in the 1980s. The new MLS (Major League Soccer) is a much more viable product, gaining support all the time. Sadly, there are no MLS teams in Florida, however.
