Sport Goggles and Condensation

My DS will start wearing his full football gear on Monday. This will include his sports goggles so he can wear his helmet.

How do you keep them from fogging up to the point that you can't see out of them? He tried wearing them during basketball, but gave up because he couldn't see through the condensation.

Is there a trick to them?

Try going to a dive shop if you have one in your area and picking up some "no fog" solution. They have it in spray and gell. Make sure you clean the goggles really well before applying solution. Also, you may try asking the optician as well

My DH switched to contacts in High School from this very same problem while playing football.

I second the dive shop idea. They have a spray to use to prevent fogging, it's great!

DS is 11 and we've started this discussion, too.

I'm waiting until I can budget for his contacts through next year's FSA.

I'll try the optician and dive shops.

Thanks!

Toothpaste. Spread a dab inside each eye piece. Rinse throughly.

This is what we did when we were diving. No need for special stuff.

We just spit in ours when I was on the swim team, that worked for us.

I'll have to try the toothpaste tonight before I go to a dive shop tomorrow.

I've always spit in my goggles, too. I didn't know if that would work for football, though. Once you wipe the spit out, wouldn't that defeat the purpose? I always just smeared the spit in my underwater goggles and left it there. :smokin:

I guess I have never tried it for football, we just wiped the spit around for our swim goggles too.

Our twins got contacts last winter and it was the best move we made. The disposable contacts are not very expensive, probably less then prescription sports goggles for a years supply. I can get a 6 month supply of my contacts for $36. The solution I use runs about $7.50 bottle and that lasts a good 3 months. You might want to look into contacts.

my son tried all the tricks for baseball - we never solved the problem. They were still very hot, he was sweating like heck inside of them, and they were fogging like crazy.

I finally just gave up and let him wear his regular glasses for the rest of the season. He's going to be getting contacts soon for this very reason.
