Spoodles or Flying Fish?

HI there!
My hubby and I are on the dining plan and we're looking for a fun place to dine at the Boardwalk before we head over to MGM to walk though the Osborne Family Specticul of Lights this year. Which would you suggest? Spoodles or Flying Fish? I've read the reviews in the Unofficial guide on both of them and we're a little torn, but we'd like to make PS soon (since there are only 32 days until DH and I go - our couple friends are meeting us a few days later).

Off topic - For you pet lovers, please send some positive vibes my way! Clydas, my lovely boxer, was in a dog fight this morning (he didn't start it, or defend himself. He just laid down and got gnawed on basically). He's doing okay and looks like he just got away with some psych truama and some cuts on his ear, but the other dog owner didn't stick around long enough to let me know his dog is vaccinated, etc. So send some P&P for Clydas! I'm hoping it's just a few scratches and it won't cost us our V&A dinner at WDW ($$$et bills$$$). Of course, we'll do all we can to take care of our brindle baby (1 year old) boy!

Thanks!

Hi!

We didn't eat at the Flying Fish, though I heard it was really good. We did do a breakfast at Spoodles and we loved it. I'd go back there for dinner and plan to for our next trip.

BTW- I LOVE BOXERS! I had a brindle baby myself a few years back. We're thinking about your doggie! :dog: :dog:

Was so psyched to eat at Flying Fish having wanted to since the year it opened. Finally got our chance in June and was really disappointed. Spoodles never disappoints. You may want to try something at the Swan, Dolphin, Yach or Beach Club.

I love both. I usually eat at one or the other every trip. The Flying Fish has great theming. Spoodles is a little more casual.

My vote is for Flying Fish. We have eaten here several times and have always had a great meal and great service. I like the atmosphere better than at Spoodles. Spoodles is fine, but I would pick FF first.

Hugs for the puppy :dog2:

These are two of my favorite restaurants at WDW. We usually eat at both. To make a choice between them would be very hard. As someone above said, it really depends on what you are looking for. Spoodles is more casual, but both have wonderful food and service.

Only thing I can suggest is to look at the menus on allearsnet.com and see which one has dishes you like better.

:dog2: sending best wishes for your pup :dog:

I'd pick Flyin Fish for dinner! We've eaten there a number of times and always perfect service and food / wine. They also have the best steak on property...

ps you can also view the menu's right here on the dis

OK I have never eaten at the Flying Fish but Spoodles was great everyway around. Service, atomosphere and Food were all above and beyond...

Flying Fish is 2 TS Credits and Spoodles is 1TS credit. For me and my family there is no way Flying Fish could be two times better than Spoodles.

I vote for Spoodles.

Oh Yes my Boxer(Karma) is laying right next to my feet as I type this. She is a big BUFF looking dog that makes most cross the street when I am walking her. If they only knew what a sweety she was. Hope yours feels better soon.

Oh, poor Clydas - I hope he feels better soon! :dog:

As far as Spoodles vs. Flying Fish - they both get really good reviews here on the board, so I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I agree that the best thing to do is look at menus from both restaurants and decide which is more appealing. Here's the link to the menus here on the DIS:

Although if Spoodles is 1 TS credit and Flying Fish is 2 TS credits, that might be my deciding factor since they are both excellent restaurants.

We've never eaten at FF, but we did eat at Spoodles a few weeks ago. We didn't like it at all. For us, it didn't live up to the rave reviews it gets on these boards. The food was so-so, and the service stunk! We won't be back anytime soon!

Prayers for your puppy! :dog2:

Would you mind sharing what you ordered at Spoodles? I'm thinking of trying it on our next trip, and I'd like to figure out if particular entrees lead to the few bad reviews here and there.

We were on the "free" dining plan. I had the shrimp appetizer and it was just ok. It was cold. I don't know if it was supposed to be cold or not? My dh got the mediterannean dips, and the hummus was really bland. No garlic or anything. The rest of the dips were OK...but not spectacular. My mom had the lamb something or other for an appetizer, and she didn't care for it (and she likes lamb).

For entrees, I had the rigatoni with sausage and shrimp add on. The rigatoni was overcooked and the sauce was dry (the dish was very "gummy") My ds10 also had the same rigatoni, but with chicken instead of shrimp. His was also overcooked and "gummy". He took a few bites and gave up. My mom and my DH had the seafood stew, and they said it was good. My ds6 wanted plain pasta with butter and cheese. When it came out, there was very little butter and NO cheese. He wouldn't eat it because it didn't taste like "mommy's" (that I make him at home). I figured that a kitchen staff could throw together such a simple dish as Pasta with butter and cheese, but I guess not!

The desserts were OK. I had the Vanilla Bean creme brulee which was very good. My mom had the Happiest Celebration dessert, which was really gross! It had some sort of jellied orange stuff in the center of it...YUCK! My dh had the gelato which he said was good. The boys had ice cream...you can't mess up ice cream!

The service was very slow. We waited for a good 15-20 minutes for our server to quit chatting with the table across from us and get our dessert. He kept yapping and yapping. We were trying to get out of there so we could go back to MGM for Fantasmic. We never did make it. We had a 5:30 PS (we were taken on time) and never got out of there until 7:45 pm.

Maybe it was an off night...I don't know. I just know that our experience wasn't worth the high praise others have given the place. :guilty:

I can't speak for dinner or lunch, because we had breakfast. But, it was REALLY good. Great potatoes, eggs, bacon, english muffin, juice...and it was my dh's birthday so they brought him out a cupcake. I'm sure it was from the bakery next door, so we went and got three more to take back to the room with us! :cake:
