SPOILERS welcome!! Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie - Part 2

Like a lot of you, the parts I wanted to see that weren't there were probably omitted because the foundations for them had been omitted from the previous movies. The backstory of the Percy/Weasley issue, for example, would be awkward to add in at this point.

I wish he'd repaired his wand instead of breaking the elder wand. That could have been done without time or plot difficulties.

I wish they'd been more explicit about Harry owning all of he Deadly Hallows by the end.

I wish the kiss between Hermione and Ron bad been more like the book. I think they could have done that even though the house elves plot had been ignored.

I was okay with them not showing Fred's death. I thought the scene with the family in the great hall packed a lot of punch.

I think they got the scene from "In the forest, again" with Harry and the resurrection stone right and that is worth a lot.

I wish they hadn't deleted the Harry/Lupin conflict/resolution of from this movie (and from Part 1) They generally messed up subplots that span part 1 and 2.

I have never really liked the way pensieve flashbacks are done in the movies. So I was a little disappointed in the Snape flashback, but not as disappointed as I expected to be.

Overall though, I loved it. I think they got a lot right - even with some of the embellishments. I guess it matched the version in my head better than in some of yours .

The scene I really miss from the films is the wrapup with the Dursleys that takes place at the beginning of Deathly Hallows - when Dudley shakes Harry's hand. Would like to have seen that.

This scene is actually on the dvd of Deathly Hallows - Part 1 under "extended/deleted scenes". Great scene of Harry and his Aunt as well. Wish they had included in the film, but great to see they at least filmed it.:wizard:

I just don't understand why this movie is only 2 hours & 10 minutes. As many details as it seems they left out they should have just extended it.

Anyways, waiting for the movie to start!! :-) :wizard:

I could swear that on NBC News this morning they said it was an hour and a half and I kept thinking to myself "can't be".

We waited in the theater 7 hours last night (Which was fine with me, because it gave me a chance to finish re-reading the book!), and it was well worth it!

I do think they should have included more about about Petunia and her jealousy of Lilly in Snape's memories. For those who've read the books, maybe it wasn't necessary, but for those who haven't (like DH), it would have helped them understand why she and Vernon were so awful to Harry.

I also think they should have included the memory of Snape calling Lilly a "mudblood", since that was the turning point in their relationship.

I agree that Harry should have fixed his wand before destroying the Elder Wand.

Other than that, I didn't mind the changes or omissions. I was a bit worried that they weren't going to let Neville kill Nagini, though!

Well, I had a lot of minor issues with the movie, but my big one was how much got left out of the battle at Hogwarts. You have all these scenes of Harry running past students in the halls (most of whom should never be there...the Hogwarts professors come off as the world's worst teachers after not trying to send off all their underage students to Hogsmead to be safe), which could have been replaced by any of the following:

- Formations of battle ready suits of armor
- The ghosts
- Hoards of angry post owls
- McGonagall running at the head of a herd of animated school desks
- Neville, Sprout and the Hufflepuffs with earmuffs and Mandrakes running to throw the plants at Death Eaters outside the walls
- The house elf resistance (yes, I understand why it was cut, but still...)

Also, my absolute favorite scene, where every Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw points their wands at the Slytherin table got cut out.

I thought it was AMAZING!!! Everyone in my family loooooved it!!!!!! But of course I haven't read the book, so I might have felt differently if I had read the book.

Don't forget Trelawney bowling the crystal balls at the enemy - although I was glad to see Emma Thompson made it into the film for a cameo at least.

We can always hope to see some of those as deleted scenes on the dvd (a la the Dudley-Harry farewell on part 1)

I really liked the movie. I don't remember all the changes that were made in the movie vs book and am glad I hadn't read the book before the movie. I did this for the goblet of fire and lost the entire movie and kept expecting to see such and such thing which never happend. It was soo desappointing and lesson learned.

Yes, you probably would have felt differently if you had read the book :-) The movies are fantastic, but there is nothing like reading the books.

It was so good. I went yesterday at 7 pm!!!! I'm going again tonight at 930 and tomorrow sometime. I can't explain how excited I am and how sad I am that it's all over.

What I loved:
- Molly Weasley dueling with Bellatrix Lestrange
- Ron and Hermione kissing
- Luna yelling at Harry!
- McGonagall casting protective spells and dueling Snape
- Snape's memories, especially the one after Lily was dead and he was holding her
- Aberforth's presence during the battle at Hogwarts
- the way they showed the multiplication of the items touched in Bella's vault
- I always love the times when they take the polyjuice potion and the characters have to lipsynch the words. always gets me.
- The final ending scene when they are all together at the train station. LOVED IT. Albus Potter was worried about being in Slytherin and Harry told him about how awesome Snape was :cloud9:

Can someone please PM me and let me know if you need to stay through the credits? Is there anything there?

I am not going to read this thread till we see the movie, I just jumped in to ask this question. I really want to be surprised with what the movie has to offer.

I don't know that you would feel differrently, I have read the books, especially the last one, multiple times, and I LOVED the movie. Were some things different or left out? Of course! If they had included everything, the movie would be 12 hours long, and I'm sure that some things would still be different than what I picture when I'm reading. I think they did a fantastic job, and am looking forward to seeing it again!

::yes::

Agreed :flower:

You have to just take the books and movies separately. Things that work in books do not work in movies and vice versa. Books have the leisure of time which movies do not, and an author can spend pages developing backstories and sub-plots that have to be displayed or explained in seconds in a movie. Some things just literaly cannot be done in film due to that time restraint. And so they make the movie to match the tone and feel of the book where possible, and in that I feel the HP movies have been successful - the early ones more so than later, but the early books were shorter and they could include more in the corresponding films. Once the books got to be the length of a dictionary they obviously had to pick and choose, and once you elimiate something in book 4 you can't just throw it in in movie 7.2 without any background - it wouldn't make sense to people who hadn't read the books, and you have to make the movies under the assumtion that there is no book to read, even if the movie is based on said books.

Is it still well made an entertaining? Good enough. I'll re-read the books if I want the full book experience. That's not what the movies are. They would have needed to make about 20-30 full length movies if they were to cover everything in the books.

I think it's one of those subjective things. My husband has seen all the movies numerous times and heard me and kids talk about the books. The last 2 movies he said he had a hard time following the movies. He liked the movies but asked us a lot of questions to fill in some of the plot.

Again, I really did like the movie, I just have to keep reminding myself to keep the movies and book separate :-)

Was anyone else annoyed with the fact that Harry was blocking Avada Kedavra curses during his fight scene with Voldemort? It's supposed to be unblockable! I guess it could be possible that they weren't killing curses, just some other curse that shows green, but why wouldn't Voldemort be trying to kill Harry? This movie is just full of little things like this that makes me think that the filmakers just kind of skimmed through the book.

The subtle things like that didn't really bother me, because that didn't change the story and you wouldn't know a difference if you had not diligently read the books. The things like Harry breaking the Elder Wand instead of putting it back in Dumbledore's grave, or at the very least fixing his Phoenix Wand before breaking it, that bothers me. The fact that the introduced Alberforth and let him have a long, nasty rant about Dumbledore and then when we finally get to see the scenen at King's Cross with Harry and Dumbledore they don't even mention Dumbledore's family dynamic or even mention Ariana at all. I know they couldn't include the ENTIRE story of Dumbledore's family, but I think Dumbledore could have made some mention of regrets in his past with his family and gave us a bit of redemption after the Aberforth rant.

I believe that the underlying theme throughout the entire Harry Potter series is "The most powerful magic is love". In the books, Harry didn't kill Voldemort, Voldemort's inability to know or understand love did. Voldemort's spells didn't work on the people of Hogwarts in the book, because Harry had made a love protection for them all when he died for them. Even if Harry would really have been dead, there would have been an entire castle full of witch's and wizards with the same protection on them that would make it impossible for Voldemort to do harm to them, as it did infant Harry. The movie didn't really touch on this at all. In the previous movies it touched on the love thing a bit, but there was no big a ha moment in the last movie were you realize what the whole story is about this. It was just "Now your horcruxes are gone, now I can kill you". I guess I won't be happy until virtual reality is perfected and I can just live the books. :)
