I have to say I don't normally vent about what people post, but today I am just a wee bit miffed about something that has happened twice this week. My complaint is in regards to people posting spoilers about TV shows without regard for people who have yet to see the show, whether or not the show hasn't aired on the west coast (or for me in Italy we get reality shows a day late) or if someone has taped the show and hasn't watched it yet, it isn't fair (or nice) to spoil it for others. Yesterday someone posted who got voted on to the final 12 on American Idol and today someone posted who was voted off of Survivor. I was looking forward to watching both of these shows and now it is spoiled. If the thread mentioned a possible spoiler I never would have opened it until the show was over.

So I ask, please, please, please write "spoiler" in your subject line and do not put damaging info out there so it ruins it for other people.

I dont think the hunk alert meant to ruin it for you :( Sorry though!

I stay away from the boards until I've watched even though sometimes I find myself wanting to come peek at what happened! LOL

Tiggerlover: Was the Spoiler info right in the TITLE of the thread??? In the official Survivor thread we have an agreement that we CAN discuss the show immediately after it has aired and those that DON'T want to know need to avoid the thread.

I totally agree that spoiler info should NOT be in titles. But if it's inside the thread, I think you need to avoid those threads! I avoid all the "rumors" threads.

As a west coaster, I have learned to not look at the Survivor Thread (either official or spoiler) after 6:00 my time...I feel that after it begins on the east coast, it's fair game to post. Just my humble opinion....

Sorry the shows were spoiled for you. :( I've mistakenly read info about who was voted in or out of shows myself, but I didn't let it ruin the shows for me. If I haven't watched the show yet, I stay away from any threads that I think might have anything do with the show, until after I've seen the show.

I'd have been annoyed about the Hunk Alert thread, now that I see it. No warnings.... I was like a sneak attack!

I know we always think that the day after is fine, but I know some folks have to tape shows.

She is not talking about in the thread - she is talking about either writing it in the title or making a title that someone would open having no idea she might be getting spoiler info.

If the title says "Survivor" - people know not to open it until after they've seen the show.

I agree with Tiggerlover - last week when Omarosa was voted off, not only was it in threads that weren't labeled "spoiler", but the information was right out in thread titles..... "Omarosa is suing....." I had taped the show, and absolutely HATE when I know what's going to happen. For me personally, it does ruin the show......

JMHO of course........................

This is exactly what I am talking about. I know to stay away from threads marked Survivor or American Idol or whatever, but the two threads that I am complaining about were as follows (note wording may be off, but it was basically what it said):

In the title line: Jennifer Hudson makes it to final 12. Now if that isn't a spoiler, I don't know what is. And the second one in the title line said: Hunk Alert......and then inside it said so and so was voted off of Survivor and that so and so was going to be on the morning show. Now why would I think a hunk alert would be a possible spoiler?

I am just asking folks to be a little more considerate of other people.

Obviously this needs to be bumped up again since there is yet another spoiler on the boards this week. Please people be considerate of others!

Moderators, can't you please do something about spoiler posts, it just isn't right to spoil things for other people.

I agree. Putting spoilers in the title, or using a title that gives no indication that a spoiler may be inside is wrong. Spoilers don't really bother me, but I try to respect the fact that most people don't like them.

Yooo Hooo, OHH MOD!

I visit another Disney forum on occasion, and they've added a vB code that can hide the text for spoilers. Is the code [ spoiler ] an option for DIS?

Maybe i'm the lone opinion here, but if I taped something and really wanted to watch it, i'd have to expect that every radio station, tv program, etc., already has the "spoiler" info on it. So do all the Yahoo, AOL and newspapers (some). I wouldn't be on the internet at all.

You almost have to stay away from all media if you want a TV show that already aired to stay "secret". I know everyone at my work talks about these shows at 9:01 when they get in at work. People are excited and want to share the news.

JMHO...please don't flame me.

No flames here, and I understand what you are saying. I'm fortunate enough to work with a group of people who don't watch reality TV. I'm the only one out of about 15 people I work with. In a case like that it's not too hard to avoid. I had to tape an episode of Survivor a couple of weeks ago. I avoided the Early Show the next day, avoided all the Survivor boards and threads, and when I was finally able to watch it three days later, I still didn't know who was voted off.

I think that because some people are able to go out of their way to avoid spoilers, they don't want to have one surprise them when they log onto the DIS.

I know what you're saying Hill, but in my case when I get online I usually come here and poke around. I purposely stay away from any "entertainment sites" I have a shortcut to these boards so I can bypass other "lead-in" sites.
Due to scheduling conflicts I've been taping survivor and AI for the last couple of weeks. I know to stay away from the official survivor and AI threads, but when you come on the boards and it says in the title "Leah LaBelle is"....you pretty much know what it is going to be about. I didn't open it because then it would have spoiled who the bottom 3 were so at least I still got suprised about that.
I'ma stay at home mom so I don't hear outside conversations about it from co-workers and most of my friends don't watch the shows.
I'm not flaming but just explaining things from a different viewpoint.
Its my understanding that the official threads are just that so to cut down on alot of repeated threads about the same thing, so if everyone could just post there it would be considerate for others. Jusy my opinion
;)

<font color=navy>I happen to agree. I'm on the West Coast, and usually stay away from threads like the Apprentice, etc., until after I've seen the show (then I run here afterwards ;) )....

However, some people don't realize that there are those of us who haven't seen a show, and put the spoiler right in the title, or have a different kind of title that doesn't indicate that it is about the show. I've seen those, too.

One idea... most boards only allow one official thread for a show. Any new ones that start get locked and the OP is directed to the original thread. I know how busy our mods are already, but that might be an option. Maybe even promote someone to "Entertainment Mod" just to perform that duty.

An old solution used to be to change the font color to the background color:

<font color="f1f1f1">This is the lighter color f1f1f1</font>

<font color="ffebd7">This is the darker color ffebd7</font>

If you highlight the text area above with your mouse (click and drag over it) you will see the hidden text.

Just a thought.

:)
