My family went to Disney last September and can't wait to go back. We LOVED Stormalong Bay. If you ask the kids their favorite part of the trip, they will say the waterslides at the pool. Is there a resort that is less expensive but that has a great pool too? Thanks for any suggestions.

Yacht/Beach Club are deluxe resorts, and most feel that StormAlong is the best pool at any resort.

The deluxes have the best themed pools, but none as nice as SAB. PORiverside and Coronado Springs are moderates that have nice pools, too, but not like SAB.

So, I guess the answer to your question is: There is no less expensive resort that has a pool as nice as SAB.

SAB is the largest and most varied pool complex of any WDW resort. For a less expensive and less fancy, but still nice, alternative you should look at Coronado Springs. I have never stayed there, but the pool looks fantastic. The Swan and Dolphin share a grotto pool complex that is also nice.

The SAB is the best pool on property and the other fun pool at the BW is still in the deluxe category.

I've stayed at most of the resorts. By far SAB is THE best pool on property. My 12 year old son thinks the next best pool is POR. Then Coronado Springs. Then Boardwalk.

For a cheaper alternative, you might look into renting points from a DVCer to stay at the BC Villas. Otherwise, all of the moderates have pool slides.

As a DVCer, I have to say that that's a great idea!

I wasn't too impressed with SAB when we stayed at the BC a few years ago, but we'll be staying at the BCV in a few months so I'm looking forward to trying it again. :)

We do like the pools at the Polynesian, Grand Floridian, and BoardWalk. The Swan/Dolphin also has a nice large, themed pool area.

Less expensive - I will assume you mean Moderates

CSR has the best pool of the moderates - if you stay at Port Orleans, you will have a choice of 2 themed pools so the diversity/choice might be the defining reason to stay there

SSR also has a nice main pool and is less expensive than BC

Having said that SAB is in a class of its own - other resorts have nice pools but nothing like SAB

Have you considere staying offsite? Maybe rent a house property with a private pool?

cheers

I agree...unfortunately I've used all my points for my upcoming trip.

But that's the thing, you can rent them from someone else, about $10.00/point.

You've spoiled them right out the shoot! :rotfl2: I don't think there is any better pool than SAB. I hear nice things about the grotto pool at Swan/Dolphin. S/D had a dive-in this past summer - watching movies at the pool. I'd think that would be pretty fun. Doesn't the grotto pool have sand, too? Sorry, I've not stayed myself and just reporting what others have said. It's something to check out if you're looking for a less expensive option, but depending on the time of year you may able to stay at BC in a regular room for about the same as S/D. Just food for thought. Are you looking at the Mods as an alternative? If so, I think I'd agree about CSR's pool. It looks pretty cool.

we saw the pool after eating there - didn't really swim much to the kids dismay but it was very themed and my boys would have been thrilled to play there.

Can I ask what renting points from DVCers is and how it works...Haven't heard of it before?

The Grotto pool is not a sand bottomed pool like SAB. It has a sand beach around the lake, however. Also, I think the confusion with SAB when comparing it to other pools... is that it is more like a WATER PARK, or a pool complex, not just "A POOL"! That is why it is hard to compare to other resorts. If you are trying to save money, another option would be to stay at a Moderate Resort and go to TYPHOON LAGOON or BLIZZARD BEACH during your stay. That would give them the taste of the water parks that kids seem to crave (adults, too!) :goodvibes
