Splitting up the 9 hour Drive

Dh mentioned that he would be more interested in going to Disney if the 9 hour drive wasn't so bad. I know a lot of people drive further but we just hate being in the car.

I thought about splitting up the trip and stopping for one night half way there. We're in NC - has anyone stopped along 95 to split up the trip? Any great places to stop? I was thinking Savannah but maybe we're missing another awesome spot. Thanks!

We always stop around Savannah for our 2nd night and enjoy it. But if you want to push a couple more hours and have fewer to Orlando, you could go to Daytona. That's almost there, though, so I don't know if your husband would see it as halfway.

I was thinking Savannah would be best since it's so close to 95. Any hotel recommendations?

Sorry, my husband does the hotels, but we usually stay on the south side of Savannah to avoid morning rush hour. Most exits will have hotels, so just take a look on the map for something that's familiar.

How about leaving early 7am stopping for a nice long afternoon there, lunch, a movie, sight seeing and then driving again 4 hrs. By 6-7 you are there. It's like a normal work day.

Savannah would be my choice for splitting up your trip. It is a city I really want to visit some day.

If you want to do a little more driving your first day, I would do St. Augustine FL. Beautiful historic old city, lots to see and good food. Small enough to easily navigate around. I would plan on spending a few hours touring the first evening, or the next morning before shoving off.

This is what I would do too. We dropped DD off at camp yesterday and it was 4 hours there and 4 hours back. Stop every 2 hours for a few minutes and it really breaks up the trip. We don't have a Sonic where we live, so we planned a stop at around the 2 hour mark and stopped for Cherry lime-aids and then on the trip home, stopped again for milkshakes. Other than taking the entire day, the trip wasn't bad at all.

We don't drive, but we have been to Savannah when my husband was there for work training. My kids loved it! Such a great city. Definitely try the Pirates House restaurant if you stop, and Leopold's ice cream parlor if you have time. We stayed in the Embassy Suites.
