Splitting TS entree?

Anyone have experience asking for a second plate so they can split an entree at a TS restaurant?

My boyfriend and I have been looking at menus - and we are often attracted to appetizers and desserts - in addition to an entree. We're thinking that we might like to split an entree at some meals so we have space to eat an appetizer and/or dessert.

Have you done this? Are they nice about it or do you get that "kinda grumpy because you didn't order two entrees" experience from the server? Or do they have rules against it any place?

We're using my TiW card - so this is not a dining plan question!

. . . we ask all the time
. . . WDW and elsewhere

Have you done this?
. . . lots of times

. . . have never received such a look
. . . it is very common around Orlando and Florida
. . . older folks have smaller appetites

Or do they have rules against it any place?
. . . come place may charge a "plate charge" of $5-$10
. . . around WDW, normally not
. . . off-site, only a few places I know of do this
. . . plus, cannot do this at all-you-can-eat or buffets

My mom and I split meals all the time and if Grandma is with us, we normally get 2 entrees and split between the 3 of us. We love the restaurants and the TS meals, but we also love our snacks at the World and like to be able to eat smaller portions for our meal and be able to snack later. popcorn::

Never had a problem asking for another plate, or even gotten a dirty look when we asked to do that. I feel like a lot of people do that since the portions are so big.

Plus, dessert doesn't seem as guilty when you only had half a meal!

Happy eating!

We too have shared many a TS meal, both on and off the DDP. We do this when we eat outside of WDW as well. Never had an issue or a funny look. The servers are used to this. Whenever we do share a meal we will adjust the tip accordingly, as if we didn't share so the server is happy.

We share all the time. I really enjoy having dessert, but with the size if the entrees at most places, I don't have any room left. Many times the entree will be split in the kitchen for you...:).

At Captain's Grille, our waitress asked if we were planning to share the chowder we ordered with our lunches so she could split it in the kitchen. I thought that was so sweet.

Thanks for the replies! I must live in the wrong area - we get crap about splitting an entree frequently here at home.

we split meals every where we go and we've never had any place refuse and 90% of the time there's not a split fee.

I am wondering about V&A, tho...we're goiing in December and there's no way I can eat all that...so I'm wondering if it's 'ok' (ie, not hillbilly tacky) to ask to split there. Any opinions?

V&A is a fixed price meal so you won't save any money by splitting. If you think it is too much food you could skip some of the courses. Each individual course is quite small so I'm not sure if it could be split onto 2 plates.

IMO it would be tacky to split at a place of that caliber. Any "regular" restaurant it's fine but I definitely wouldn't do it at V&A

The one meal I want to split with DW is at 50's PTC...and I'm worried about raising the ire of "mom". :lmao: That 4 piece chicken dinner looks like the best thing on the menu but that's way too much food for me to handle.

it's not about saving money at V&A...we'll be on the Platinum Plan. But I hate wasting food...I guess there's no help for it, tho. I will enjoy my 2 bites and be happy. :) (ALtho, it really IS about excess...i can't imagine doing the wine wiht dinner there....several glasses at one meal??? HOly smokes...if DH does the wine, I'm getting him a designated walker for after.)

As for 50's, DH and I split there all the time...never had a cross look. It's better to split than not clean yer plate at 'Mom's'. :rotfl:

We ordered the 4 piece chicken and split it and we got no flack from "mom" so just play along and all will be fine.

Regarding V&A's, each course really is only a few bites. They're all small, so that you have room for everything. This led to us practically licking the plates from each course because we wanted just one more bite! The food there was incredible. Issues of propriety aside, you won't want to split any of your courses there. :teeth:
