Splitting Meals

Hello,

I am super brand new to these forums, but not new to Disney. I'm a travel professional in Canada. I'm traveling to Disney with my boyfriend in May for Star Wars Weekends. We've made some reservations for a couple of restaurants, Sci-Fi Dine in Theatre, Biergarden and the Rose and Crown. Now, i've heard that the portions are gigantic. So what i'm wondering is could anyone fill me in on the actual size of portions and if it's worth it in some cases to split an entree. I was reading that at the Rose and Crown, for example, you could ask them to split a plate of fish and chips between two people and they have no problems doing it. It's not that we're on any sort of budget, although I do love saving money, but rather that we're not huge eaters and from what I have experienced before, it's just too much food. If anyone could enlighten me on portion size or even help me out with some photos of their plates at the applicable restaurants, i'd be eternally grateful.

I don't have pictures but the portions are pretty large. Probably 1.5 times what I would normally want at a sit down resteraunt. Which if you normally eat less may be enough for 2. I have never tried to split meals as in general my husband and I wouldn't agree on what we wanted.

I am pretty sure biergarden is a buffet though so obviously that isn't an issue there.

If you look on the "Special Links on the Restaurant Board - UPDATED 7.01.10" sticky at the top of the restauarants page, there are a bunch of links to threads. I am sure many of them will help you find exactly what your looking for.

My husband and I find that just about anywhere we go in Disney, that we can split our food at say lunch time and still not really be hungry later on in the day for dinner because most portion sizes are very large. Right off the top of my head I can't even think of a place we have eaten in which the portion has not been enough for us to split.
:thumbsup2

If we eat a whole portion each, it's like stuffing yourself at Thanksgiving! Not a feeling we like to carry around in the parks for the rest of the day! ;)

I would say that the portions at Sci-Fi are pretty close to what you'd get at a TGI Fridays or Chili's. A lot of the TS restaurants do give you good sized portions so sharing is very doable. Just ask your server when you get there or eyeball what is being served around you.

Hello,

We've made some reservations for a couple of restaurants, Sci-Fi Dine in Theatre, Biergarden and the Rose and Crown. Now, i've heard that the portions are gigantic.

The Biergarten is a buffet so you'll each have your own plates and portions there. There won't be a problem sharing meals at the other two. Now, the good part about doing this is if you do share and then decide you are still hungry, there's always desserts at the restaurant. Or lots of snacks later on throughout Disney World.

I do have to caution you with sharing, though. Quite often, your entree will be split but the side items will still be a full portion for each plate. In fact, for the fish and chips, it's quite possible you each could get half the portion of fish and then maybe another plank just in case. But you both would probably still get a full portion of the chips. Same with Sci Fi if you choose to split something like a burger. You'd still get a full portion of the fries.

Disney does not skimp on food on non-signature restaurants. That's why, if we decide to eat at one, that's our one meal of the day and we feel so stuffed after.

A different opinion here. DH and I each like our own meal. I am not a big eater (5"3" and slender) but DH is. A split entree is not enough food for us. That said, I may not finish my dinner.
