Splitting Goofy between 2 people

Friends of mine were planning on doing the Half during Marathon weekend in January but it sold out so fast they didn't get in. Now they are thinking of registering for the Goofy and one does the half and one does the full. I have heard of people unofficially giving their bibs to someone else if they can't run but has anyone heard of people splitting this race up? Before the flames start the race costs as much as the others separate so they won't save any money, and it doesn't add more people to the course. Just wondering if you think it would fly. It's a husband and wife so the bib name is the hang up, how close do you think they pay attention to the name?

No flaming.....the only places, I believe, they check the bib are at the corrals--to make sure you are in the right one. Well--that, plus sometimes at the finish line they call out names. They could probably do it, but they don't really have any recourse if someone gives the marathon runner the hook (assuming the 1/2 marathon person is the one registering). Also, the results would be skewed if the marathon runner was dramatically faster than the person doing the half.

Yes, it's possible and easy to do. I would try to register with the name that could more easily be either gender or if that's not possible, perhaps register with first and middle initials and a last name.

Yes easily done. You paid for everything so I really don't see an issue, but that's me. Other's might have an issue. The only issue is you will get a Goofy medal and shirt when you didn't earn it. I assume you will melt down the medal make arrow heads or something and donate the shirt to a thrift shop :)

As for the wrist band, I usually take my off before the race as many times I check in on Friday and don't race until Sunday. Just have them put it on loose or just cut it then tape it back on.

There are going to be so many people finishing when you do that no one will notice a name issue.
enjoy,
Duane

I will be the naysayer and think this is not going to fly, especially with the inaugural Dopey this year, and the new pace requirements. rD is going to be much more vigilant about checking bibs. It's an incredibly stupid idea to break the rules to save a few bucks.

They aren't trying to save a few bucks. The half is already sold out so the only way the half runner can even race is to do the half portion of the Goofy unless the half runner can train to finish the full and then both of them run the full.

Ah, I see. No, I don't think that's a good excuse either. You can still run the half for charity or through a travel provider.

Having the wrong bib potentially creates a dangerous situation in case they need medical attention on course, and messes up every other person running the race in terms of their placement. Additionally, it screws up how Disney places you in corrals for future races.

I wouldn't worry about the name on the bib. You can put down any name you want (Santa, Kermit, etc.), and when you go to packet pickup & it doesn't match an ID, you tell them it's your nickname. In the organized chaos of race morning, no one will be checking the bibs for anything other than the corral letter. That's going to be their biggest concern given the new proof of time requirements, and besides, who is any volunteer to question someone's name? The uproar over possibly getting it wrong isn't worth it.

I'd say it's doable too. I don't think it would be hard to pull off.

And side note- wouldn't it actually cost more to pay for Goofy than to pay for the races separately? Don't they add in a few $$$ for the extra medal and shirt? So even if they were trying to save money- this isn't the way to do it. lol

Yes, doable. I doubt anyone will even look at the name on the bib. Just the corral letter. I don't think it's a big deal to do what they are proposing. Worse things in life have happened than racing with the wrong bib. Besides, who has the time to worry about what other people are doing on race day?? :)
