First of all, is this allowed since this is a signature restaurant.

Second, do you think that ordering a couple apps, splitting a steak, and a side would be a nice meal out as a treat/surprise for my mom on our next trip?

Any opinions are welcome!

I don't see why there would be any problem with this. I'm not sure how splitting would work if you're on the dining plan, but paying out of pocket you should be able to order whatever you want. We ate at Yachtsman last summer and loved it:thumbsup2 The steaks were perfect and the mac and cheese is an amazing side.

Splitting a steak with a couple of apps sounds about perfect. The side portions are a pretty reasonable size, so that actually sounds like a great way to enjoy it and try a bit more overall.

If you pay oop then you won't have an issue. If you are on a DDP it may be a little more difficult. Then again, if you are on the DDP you could get the 32oz Porterhouse for 2 which will be split and you would get your two appetizers and two desserts.

Sharing out of pocket is fine. We've never encountered an issue with it. However, in conjunction with the DDP, I'd say it's generally frowned upon...even flat-out not allowed. That's been our experience. But it doesn't hurt to ask.

Just to clarify for the OP - if ordering the 32 oz Porterhouse for 2 with DDP credits, you will definitely be required to use 4 TS credits. And appetizers are only included with the Deluxe, Premium, and Platinum plans.

If your party is all on the DDP, I think that estaurants are fine with splitting a meal. The potions at theYSH are generous, and if you plan on appetizers, there would be plenty.

With the "new" rules that we all have heard about but cannot find official clarification, I think sharing will be even more relaxed, but again, no one knows for sure, and it seems to be up to the individual restaurant.

I would be upfront with your server, tell thm your plan and see what the policy at YSH is.

1) YES.
2) With the exception of buffets, AYCTE, dinnershows, V&A, and (some dishes at) Via Napoli, splitting is perfectly fine.
3) Whether on DDP or OOP.
4) We do it all the time.

NOTE: There is one exception where we do not split. I ILL NOT SHARE my Liberty Tree Tavern Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake.

You should have no problem splitting your meal. My DH and I usually split an appetizer, entree and then dessert. We have done this in just about every signature restaurant: Yachtsman, California Grill, Artist Point, Flying Fish and the list goes on and on. Just tell the waiter that you will be sharing your entree. Sometimes they will bring it out split and other times they will just bring an extra plate. I think that it depends on what you have ordered, but we are fine either way. I hope you enjoy your trip:mickeybar

1) We have had the chef split the plates EVERYWHERE almost automatically, except at The Turf Club (SSR).
2) The portions here are so small, if they split the plate, you could barely see the entrée.
. . . we had the Lamb Chops this past Wednesday (7/29/2015)
. . . there were two chops on the plate - my 1896 Silver dollar covered the meat-end of each of them
. . . the asparagus was four itty-bitty-tiny pieces, a little thicker than a shoelace and soggy-limp

NOTE: Turf Club has improved the quality of their food and their service in the pat two years, , so we had to try it for another review. We have heard that many people leave the eatery hungry. Some even stop at the Artist Palette (QS) on the way out to fill up their tummies.

My daughter and I shared in our last trip and it worked great. Plus it leaves more room for apps, sides, or dessert
