I am thinking about cutting my Disney vacation short by two days so that I can get in two days at Universal. Any thoughts? It will be the first week of March. Do the Mardi Gras festivities impact the day crowds much? Thanks guys. The kiddos are torn. We have never done Universal!

it really depends on your kids. We are doing next year, first time after 4 years. We did Universal two years ago. This time the kids and husband asked that we split stay.

We are doing 5 nights Disney and 3 nights Universal. 2 would be enough, but the family has requested a day to stay at the pool at Hard Rock as it is their fave part of the trip.

How old are the kids, that makes the difference. Mine are ages 7-12. The first time at Disney they were ages 3-8. I wouldn't have done Universal then.

Mardi Gras will affect afternoon crowds at the Studios mainly based on who the performer is that night. Crowds can be huge for certain acts so make sure you check to see who's performing that night (once released) and see if it's someone you'd like to see. In any event, make sure you see the parade...it shouldn't be missed and both the parade and concert are included in your park admission.

Thanks guys. My kids are 10 and 13. I tried looking at the plans for MG but didn't find any. I think I am just ready to explore a new place. We keep doing Disney but Universal sounds fun.

We love to split our trips! We are Universal fanatics so we always allow for at least 3 days for Universal, If we stay offsite we drive to the parks and usually sprinkle Universal throughout the Disney days or even hit both resorts on the same day occasionally. If we stay onsite we of course split up the trip so the days at Universal are together. Staying onsite at the three nicer resorts at Universal is an amazing experience.

MG details will be released shortly after the new year. Keep checking back.

We usually split our trips between WDW and UO also. As my son has gotten older, the trips are heavier on the UO side then the WDW side. Definitely worth staying onsite, and we always stay at UO for the last part of our trip. The express pass spoils us at UO, and I fear would make WDW less favorable to DH and DS if had to wait in long Disney lines after fast express lines at UO.

Really wouldn't want to go to Orlando and not do both parks, and now we are spoiled and feel the need to stay onsite at both WDW and UO. It is not cheap, but we know it is worth the wait to save up to do the trip the way we enjoy it best- that is to say staying onsite at both parks.

Long story short, stay at a UO resort, if there is a MG enjoy it, and do the UO portion of the trip after the WDW portion.

Thanks! I've noticed some concerts on the website. I didn't realize they celebrated MG that long! So, stay on site at Universal is what I'm hearing rather than stay on Disney property and drive. Thanks a bunch. I can't wait!!

You will be spoiled with the Express pass. My guys love US/IOA. We did our forth year there over Thanksgiving. It was the first year we did not go to WDWsince 2004. I love WDW but being able to walk to the parks and not fight the lines at the bus stop is awesome. Have a great trip

Thanks mom2! I saw this just recently. We pushed our trip back but still want to visit Universal. Can't wait!!!
