Split Stays

Ok, who here can give me the low down on doing split stays. I want the good, bad, and ugly. My boyfriend and I are headed down in November, and neither of us have ever done one. We both really want to stay at Wilderness Lodge, but it is only available for 3 out of our 7 days. I said I wouldn't mind staying our first 4 nights at Old Key West and then moving over to WL, but my boyfriend said he isn't sure he wants to deal with moving. Like I said before, neither of us has experience with doing a split stay, so I'm looking for information on pros and cons to help lean us in one direction or the other.

I have done 2 split stays and am thinking about a third in Nov. My first was AKV and GF and the second was BLT and BWV. I didn't have a problem with either one. The first we had a rental car and just packed everything up and headed to the new resort. The second we let bell services handle the transfer. Both went smoothly. The only obvious downside for me is the time that you have to spend packing and unpacking, but I have 2 small children so the packing and unpacking may be less of a hassle for you. And if your room is not ready at the new resort, it can be a bit of a let down. BTW, I love both the WL and OKW.

With just 2 adults it would be pretty easy just call bell service the morning you're changing resorts, they will come to your room and move all your luggage and food. They will also keep anything that needs to remain cold in a refridgerator for you. When you get to your new resort and get your room just let bell services know and they will bring all your luggage and food to your room. Just remember if you plan on going swimming to bring your swim suits with you since it could be later in the day by the time your luggage arrives.

You can also move it yourself for around $20 max ... just take a cab to the new resort in the AM ... check-in (you can check in anytime after 7am and they will text yiou when the room is ready) leave your luggage with bell services and enjoy the parks ... the advantage of this strategy is that you dont have any check in crowds and dont have to wait until 3-4pm for your transferred luggage.

I agree. With 2 adults, it won't be that much of a hassle. We have only done a split stay once in the past and it really wasn't for us as we don't like to move once we settle in to one resort. I say if you really want to stay at WL, go for the split!!

Thanks everybody. My DBf now says he wouldn't mind doing the split stay if we could do 4 days at WL so that the majority of the trip is there. I guess I'll waitlist that Sunday and hope Mon-Wed stay open until it (hopefully) come through. I didn't think it would be that much of a hassle, but he was worried it would be fairly awful.

We’ve done 2 split stays and will be doing a 3rd in November. We really don’t mind them at all. Our first split stay was between BLT and BCV and this past trip we stayed at 3 resorts ( BLT to OKW to BCV, we booked last minute so it was slim pickings)!

We like the split stays because we base them around the days we’re going to certain parks. We’ll spend a few days at either BCV or BWV so we can walk to HS and Ecpot, and then we’ll stay a couple more days at either BLT or VWL for MK and to eat at the monorail resorts.

We don’t have kids traveling with us yet, and we don’t really unpack a lot of things anyways, so its not really a hassle for us. Bell services will take you luggage to the new resort for you and you can usually pick up your bags or have them delivered to you in the mid-afternoon. There is no resort to resort bus, so you can hop on a bus at your current resort, head to a park and get on your new resort bus then.

I've done a couple of split stays. I just pack up the luggage and let bell services deliver it to the next resort. I then go to a park and have a great time. Sometime in the late afternoon I go to the new resort and check in and let them bring up my luggage.
