I notice that a lot of people choose split stays and move resorts sometimes two or three times during a vacation, apart from room availability at time of booking what are the other reasons people choose to move so much? Personally I just want to unpack and get on with the vacation without loosing days to moving, just curious!

I'm about to embark on my first split stay. 4 days at the FW cabins and then to our beloved VWL. The reason we split was I only use a certain amount of points each year but we wanted a longer stay so we will try the split stay. If we do it again, we will chose different resorts that are not DVC and pay out of pocket. This way we will always try something new.

We do part of the stay in the Epcot area and then move to the MK area. We love being able to walk to/from 3 of the 4 parks this way.

For us, it also makes it seem like two different vacations. To make the move easier, we pack everything needed for stay #1 in one bag and everything for the next resort in the 2nd bag. This way, we unpack and then put back in as we use things. It makes it very easy. And, the day we move, we just start out at Epcot or DHS, and then head over to the MK area to check in. We do usually have a car which makes the move easier.

Matter of fact, we are in the process of adding BWV (we own BLT) so that we can book without issues from now on.

We have done split stays to experience other resorts but we don't have enough points to stay for the entire length of stay. We are splitting our next stay between BCV and AKV for this reason. I don't have enough points to stay the the entire time at BCV, but my kids really want to stary there and use Stormalong Bay.

to us it also depends on how long we are staying. Frequently we'll spend a couple weeks at OKW and a week plus at VB.

I think each resort is such an adventure! we are leaving soon for 3 nights at BLT, 2 nights universal, 2 nights Kidani and 10 nights Boardwalk. I love to try all the resorts:)

I mostly do split stays because of different people who are coming for different times of the vacation. In September DSis and I will be in BCV with one DGF for just one night,(DGF really loves BCV and I treat her to BCV whenever she can join me for a night! She works and lives in Florida, so a one night stay is possible) and then we move to AKV where 4 other DGFs will join us for 4 nights. After those leave, DH comes and we have one night in BWV before our cruise! Point costs force some of the moves. With the 6 of us, I wanted a 2 bedroom and a studio.

DSis and I have 2 nights in a BLT studio in January and the next 5 nights at BWV. BLT has a great location, but I don't want to pay those points for all 7 nights, at BWV, we have standard view.

My family does split stays because each stay feels like a different vacation.

We also have decided that we are not crazy about spending more than 7 nights at the same resort....it gets a little "boring", so switching resorts gives us something to look forward to.

Our favorite split stay is AKV/BCV.

We split stay b/c we go every other year & want to try different resorts. Couldn't possible choose just one!

For us splitting a stay is about maximizing our time on site. This next trip (in 2 weeks!:cool1:) will be 1 week in an OKW studio and 1 week in a Kidani 1 BR.

We're WLed for a AKV value studio for the 1st week (would add 1 more day to our vacation!) but I'm not hopeful at this late date.

maybe some of my fellow DISers can pray for some pixie dust for us?

Ooh starting to convince me! Some top tips in those replys!

On our 13 day honeymoon this past december, DH & I did a triple split stay..(We had extra DVC points to play with)

We spent 4 nights at BLT, LOVED it. (Used points for a studio standard, and ended up with a room that had a side view of the castle! BEAUTIFULL!).
Then we moved over to the VWL, in a one bedroom woods view...We didn't want to leave!!

Then we ended up at the YC....we did not like it, but that's a whole 'nother story!

Bottom line: We both agreed, that one move was fine, but moving twice was not.

I intend to do another split stay hopefully in may between BLT & BCV.
The best of both worlds! :woohoo:

So when you guys do split stays do you have do check in twice...Check out twice? How does that all work especially with your dining plan? I assume if you don't have points at your other resort you wanna stay at then you have to book 7 months out instead of the normal time frame. Anyone ever had trouble getting the split stay they wanted?

Yes, technically I guess we "check-out" twice, but that's no big deal. We never do anything special to check-out. We just pack up & leave. We never need to go to the front desk for anything.

Yes, if changing resorts, then you need to check-in again. No big deal for us. We always make this day a "pool day" & head over in our swim suits, pool bag in hand, ready to spend the morning/afternoon by the pool until our room is ready.

You can see all of our split stays listed in my signature, & no, we have never had trouble getting the stay we've wanted (our home resort is SSR). We did not use the waitlist for any of them.

So far, no problems getting what we wanted at the 7 month mark for our split stays. We are adding on at BWV so that we never have a problem anymore and can get the SV rooms there one year and BW view the next.

But, for us, it is an easy switch. Yes, we do have to pack up and go to the next resort and are "homeless" until our new room is ready. But, we plan for that in a way that doesn't really matter.

This year, on the move day, we are leaving BWV, hitting Epcot for a little while and then heading over to check in at BLT. We then have 12:30 lunch reservations at CRT (some of our group) and Liberty Tree (for the other part). After lunch, the plan is to tour MK for a little while or go over to the pool and swim until the room is ready. We figure that by the time lunch is done it could be close to 2:00 pm anyway.

We will usually do it to extend our trip and/or save some points. We will do a studio for 2-3 night followed by a one bedroom. If we are packing up anyway not that much harder to have the second part in different resort.

We do split stays to be near the two main parks. This year we're doing BLT the front half so we can walk to MK... then changing over to BWV the back half so we can walk to EPCOT.
The other reason we're doing split stays is so we can experience more resorts. Once we've stayed at them all, we can decide where to buy more points.

We are doing a split stay next time because we are staying longer. We only are using our DVC points for a week and paying cash for the other three days. We have always wanted to stay at POFQ but then purchased DVC. With the longer trip we decided to stay at POFQ for three days, then move to VWL (hopefully-fingers crossed). The day we are moving, we are just taking off to swim at the pools.

We really enjoyed our split stay last year. We did part at BW and the other at BLT. We usually go to Epcot and HS when at the Epcot area resorts and Mk when at BLT. We we packed up to change resorts, we just contacted bell svcs. and they moved our belongings to the new resort. We went over to Epcot and then to Chef Mickey's for early dinner just in case our room was not ready. We also did QS when at BW and changed to TS when at BLT. Disney made everything seamlesss. The Magical Express dropped us at BW and picked us up at BLT. It was great to have the different experiences. We hope to visit all of the DVC resorts!:cheer2:

Exactly the split we are doing next week for the same reasons! We love it!!
