Split stays: is this normal?

We transferred from Boardwalk to Pop today. When my husband went to Bell Services at Boardwalk to have them transfer our luggage, there was a lot of pushback. I thought luggage transfer was a standard procedure for split stays?

Ex: They asked my husband why we couldn’t fit it in our car. My husband had to explain we didn’t have room in the car because we were dropping people off at the airport. They asked my husband if he was sure he wanted to put one of our bags with groceries in it in a hot van for 4 hours. My husband explained none of it was perishable/of the melting variety. They also reiterated how Pop is so close by and acted like we were inconveniencing them. It was a really odd ending to an otherwise fantastic stay at our favorite resort.

Oh, and I should add that we experienced absolutely none of this at Pop. They were very friendly and accommodating. We just had the weird pushback at Boardwalk.

That’s terrible! I can understand the CM making sure none of the groceries were perishable, but it should not have been the way you describe. And I see no reason for pushback on the transfer, either. You might send an email to wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com, including date, time, and CM name if you know it, so they’ll be aware. It sounds like someone needs more training.

Definitely not normal. Many split stays under my belt and I’ve never gotten pushback from the bellmen like that. They ask making sure they’re no perishables, medication and that I am aware I won’t see my bags until late afternoon- but always nicely, never tried to deter me from using the service.

Never had an issue. Bell services doesn't even know you have a car (unless you are pulled up right in front of them), but it's a perk that you are entitled to regardless.

I was at Pop 3 weeks ago and they could not have been more accommodating about transferring our luggage to the Wilderness Lodge. It was definitely a rogue cast member giving you pushback.

Only thing that might make this issue was your comment about a "car". Did your husband go to the Bell Services desk adjacent to the Front Desk or just the guys outside on the portico?

The guys outside are valet service for cars and are a third party company?

I had bags transferred between Dolphin, BWV, BLT, AKL on my last trip and the only thing resembling "pushback" was twice they were concerned with it not being moved until after 1pm. I had airtags in my bags so I could track them and the time didn't matter because my rooms were never ready until 4:00 and I was at the parks.

Seems odd maybe it was a new guy unfamiliar with the policy. I don't think Disney wants to dissuade people from spending more money by staying at various resorts by axing the luggage program.

You just got a grump who didn't want to deal with you. Not normal or policy. I'd report that someone needs a bit better training.
Whew! So glad to hear that. I've done so many split stays on solo trips, and I have one coming up. I've never had problems, and I was hoping this wasn't some new kind of normal.

Maybe that CM used to work at Universal or something. There, if I remember correctly, you're only entitled to luggage transfer if the bags are going to/from a premier (equivalent to a Disney deluxe) or preferred onsite resort.

Not so at Disney. You shouldn't have gotten any pushback whatsoever.
