Split Stays and Perishables

Considering the way I seen cast treated over transfer I don
I think it was "without complaint that you heard."

I think they had spoilage issues that had many guests angry along the way, and add in staffing issues and it was an easy cut.
They definitely had angry guests. Sadly I have seen several of these confrontations and it was not pretty on the behavior side of the guest.
In reality I am surprised it lasted this long.

I don't blame them, honestly. (And I'm not on board with a lot of the cuts they've made recently) My guess is it's the refrigerated medicines that are the issue and a huge liability. Meds get warm and can't be used then guest has to get refills that insurance will refuse to pay for. Add that with lower staffing it's taking longer to get luggage and refrigerated items to the next resort, it's an easy call from a business standpoint.

I did a non-DVC split stay two weeks ago. Bell Services at Pop provided me with bags to use to identify the items needing refrigeration and then transferred the items to BC for us. Is this a very recent policy?

Yes, the first report I saw was last Saturday, July 24.

I should add that Bell Services was extremely understaffed at both resorts. At Pop, guests were lugging around cases of water and going behind the Bell Services counter to find their own things. We scouted out a cart to get our own luggage and groceries after holding on the phone for over 45 minutes trying to reach Bell Services. One of the CMs said that it’s like that in Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

This truly is a wise move. I have always avoided transferring any food that couldn’t be packed into my suitcase... but! On a recent trip, I only had a few things (yogurt & leftovers) that needed to be refrigerated on the day of our transfer, and was finally convinced (by my family & a friendly bellman who assured me it would be ok) to just “let it go” -as bell services has been doing this *successfully* for years.

Welp, I ate said leftovers and got horrific food poisoning (all. night. long.) 🤢

I didn’t complain to CM’s bc I knew I was accepting risk when I agreed to it, and it was my own fault for not taking care of items needing refrigeration. Looking back, it may have been better for me to notify them that it had happened, strictly for the sake of helping future travelers. Either way, I hope this change saves other people from making the same mistake I did (based upon assumptions of safety which could never truly be promised… or delivered… pun intended 😉).
