Split-Staying a Very Short Trip?

Is it worth it?

I was thinking of splitting our future (2007/or 8) stay between AKL and Poly--possibly just a 2 and 3 night split. Trip will be short because it will be in December and the kids will be taken out of school.

We would stay in AKL when we are visiting AK and another park and move to the Poly to do MK and another park. Last night would be MVMCP till 12:00, and we want to be able to take the monorail home.

I hesitate because of the hassle of packing (which would take up time) and just the overall hassle.

Thoughts?

I've been thinking about this myself. Coming from Oz, trips are few and far between and I want to make the most of this experience but is it worth packing and starting over?

Twelve months ago we did a one-night stay at AKL before we moved to BCV and it was a bit hectic, but it all went fine, greatly helped by the fact that we did NOT unpack during the first stay. Instead, I would recommend carrying smaller bags that will see you through for the 2-night stay, and then spreading out a bit for the 3-nighter!

We just did 2 nites at CBR and 2 at Saratoga Springs..and for us it was a royal pain in the b***. We've done split stays before but I don't think we'll do it for such short stay at these resorts again. We spent hours transferring using disney transportation and lugging our stroller on and off the buses, checking in etc. I think it helps if the hotel you are in is not sprawling like the CBR and SS...they are both so huge it takes forever to get in and out of them (need to take a bus internally in the resort!!) From what I remember about our previous stays at AKL, it's pretty easy to check in and go to the room (even if it is a long walk you don't need a bus to get to your room!) and that seems true of the Poly too (from what I remember about our stay there 10 years ago!) So it may not be too bad going from the AKL to the Poly...pack light..one bag for each resort and it is much easier! The locations would be perfect too for what you plan to do as AKL really is so far from the MK compared to the Poly. Have a fun trip!

I'm not sure the question of worth is the term I would use, rather is it practical?

I think when you are only staying for a few nights that a split stay would not be practical for most families. If you are adventerous and do not unpack your belonging from you luggage...you will be fine. The PR and AKL is a good combination. Just realize the AKL will be impact by DVC construction in 2007.

We have stayed spilt stays before and we would not do a spilt stay for 5 nights, since the process does consume a little time, involves a loss of a room in the middle of your stay, and can impact specific components of vacation packages. In our eyes, when your stay is short the value of time is increased.

Well, if the overall positive experience overwhelmed the practical aspects, I would still do it.

But I'm not sure that's the case. It doesn't seem so. I think we'll skip it.

Thanks for all the responses. :)

Good choice. Just did a split stay, but it was a 10 night trip. I think you would be discouraged losing so much time on a short trip.

We won't split stays on 10-night trip. I can't imagine doing it on a 3-nighter!
