I did this last trip and swore I'd never do it again (DH thought it would just be easier to do it ourselves so it took us half a day to get packed up, move our luggage, get checked in, etc.). Anyway, here I am *again* thinking about splitting our stay...our last 3 nights will be at ASMo with a dear friend who has not been to DW before. So the days in question are our first 4, and the resorts that still have availability (we're leaving a week from today!!) are Poly and Contemporary.

Poly garden view would be $888 (AP rate) for the 4 nights, including tax.

Contemporary (for the rooms NOT in the tower) would be $803 for the 4 nights including tax.

This is a mother/daughter trip; we stayed at the Poly in November and Loved it! We have never stayed at the Contemp.

What would you do??? Time is running out on me lol. I always do this! Try to 'get something better' at the last minute!!

I like to split stays but since you are already split by moving to ASMo I would just pick one resort. We never split anything less than five days. It diplaces you for too long and takes too much time even if you let them move your bags. Take the Poly! CR is just too 70's for me!;)

We are just choosing one other resort besides ASMo, I'm torn between Poly and Contemp. I am leaning towards the Poly right now, but my DD7 has always wanted to stay at the Contemp for some reason. About the only reason I would stay there is to surprise her and also to accomplish my goal of (someday) being able to say I've stayed at all DW resorts!

I only split a stay once and will never do it again. It was not only a pain to pack and unpack, but it made the trip feel like it was twice as short. Some people swear by it though. Just my two cents...

We're going next summer(7/04 for 10 days) and we have gone back and forth about this!! Do we stay at AKL the whole time(which will be pricey) or stay at the Swan(or dolphin) half the time? I'm glad this post is here,I'd like to hear more pros and cons on this. I'm hesitant to do this because of the wasted time involved in packing and moving. on the other hand,it would allow us to experience both resorts. AKL sounds wonderful, and my S.O. would absolutely love it. But how much time are we actually going to spend at the resort?? On our last trip staying on site,we hardly spent more than sleeptime at the resort. I don't want to waste $$$$ on a resort we're not going to spend a lot of time at. We're planning on doing a lot of things this time that will be costly( Dolphin swim @ DC,Cirque DeSoliel(sp),renting a car to go to Universal Studios). I just don't know...

Funny you should mention Universal Studios...the more I've thought about upgrading and splitting part of our stay, the more I thought I ought to just "stay put" at ASMo and maybe make a trek to US (we've never been). My DD is 7 and I'm not sure how much there is for her to enjoy, and I don't think we want to go to IOA, just US.

Maybe I should do Universal AND upgrade for part of our stay???

Boggles the mind!!!!

Truly...it's all in the packing! If you pack (and unpack) in an organized way...no big deal to move! I'm a meetings manager so I travel and pack alot. Here's how I'd do it if I had to move. It takes planning, though, because you have to pack like you plan to dress. Pack the stuff you'll wear at the end of the trip in the bottom of the suitcases and pack in layers up to your first few days clothes. Bring a duffle or folding suitcase and as you wear clothes throw them into this. Don't unpack your entire suitcase at the first resort! That way...you will only have to repack toiliteries, shoes, and other stuff that you will use again when you move. (I ALWAYS do this and then I check the dirty clothes bag on the return-separates dirty from clean/dry clean).

Use bellmen/help! The few dollars you give them go a long way in making any transition less of a burden. I don't schlep for work and I don't schlep on vacation....that's why they have bellmen. DH is pretty useless due to back problems and we didn't think to have kids to use as pack mules (LOL)....so...we use other people's kids (i.e. bellmen) to do it! If you don't have a car, take a cab with all the luggage. Spending a few bucks on help and transfers will make this so much easier. If your room isn't ready, leave your luggage with (you guessed it) the bellman. They usually have locked space where they will store your luggage. You can tell them to put it in your room once the room opens or have them wait until you get there.

As far as the Poly/CR question. Haven't been able to talk DH into staying at the Poly (his answer: been to Hawaii....why go to a copy). Have been to the CR numerous times and LOVE it. In fact, when not staying at the Dolphin....it is our second choice. We haven't stayed at all the resorts, but at most moderates and deluxes and we always come back to the CR. BIG rooms, EASY transportation, fantastic VIEWS, favorite RESTAURANT on property....not much in the theming department but the theme parks provide enough to cover our need for a fix. In fact, it's nice to get away from all the theming, hence, the CR or Dolphin. We've been lucky at the CR that when we aren't in the tower, we usually have had a room that's pretty close to the main building. Ask for a ground floor room....you'll have a patio where you can sit at night. But again, my perspective about these resorts is one-sided.

Hi there...

We went last year to Universal with my 8 year old DD - we had a blast... if your DD7 likes rides there is lots for her at Islands of Adventure.

At Universal studios the attractions are based on movies such as ET, Jaws, Men in Black, Twister, Earthquake, SHREK, Terminator II

We just had so much fun - we love Disney too, Disney is more magical where Universal is more "cool"

They also have three great hotels within walking distance of the parks and if you stay there you get Front of the line access.

Have fun planning your trip..
