Question with my planning... We have been to Disney many times over the last few years. I have convinced my husband to do a January 1-5 stay... yes, I am well aware of what the crows will be like and so forth... I just wanted to escape the Ohio cold and see Disney around Christmas. Anyway, we ( myself, husband and 2 tween daughters) have reservations at Pop Century and have our tickets linked... IF... and this is a BIG IF... I can convince him to stay somewhere offsite for new years eve and add a day to the ticket how would that work? The price difference is 30 to add a day so I am not worried about that. Could there be park closures that would inhibit us from entering since we would not be resort guests until the following day? I know on November 2 we can make our FP reservations, but I guess I cannot comprehend how adding a day might affect things.

Edit: We would NOT stay on site, as the prices are out of my range :)

Are your tickets separate or part of a package? If they’re part of a package and you add a day to your tickets, you won’t be able to go into the parks 12/31 as your resort stay doesn’t begin until 1/1. If your tickets were bought separately, adding a day would depend on what “start day” you selected, as typically the tickets are only valid from that day on. As you said, keep in mind the parks will be incredibly busy and might fill to capacity, MK especially.

As PP noted, if you decide to do this, your best course of action would be to re-book Pop as room only, book your offsite hotel and then purchase separate tickets with a start date of 12/31. That way, you can enter the park on 12/31 and your Pop stay FP+ window would still open on Nov. 2. Your 12/31 FP+ window would open 30 days prior to that date.

Can you do this? Sure. Would I, personally, do this? No. Just driving onto WDW property and parking at one of the parks will be absolute mayhem, not to mention trying to drive out when you leave. If I were to do this, I would add the extra night at Pop. If that's cost prohibitive, I would spend a nice NYE at home and then leave things as planned and start enjoying WDW on Jan. 1. Or book the offsite hotel and enjoy NYE there.

Thank you both! We are driving down from Ohio and plan to stay close anyway, since 1/1 is our first park day. I agree with many of your points, and didn't even think of some of the points! Thanks so much for all of the advice!
