After 20+ trips we are considering our first split stay. We have a four night reservation at the BWI in a GS. I am considering adding one night at the Poly at the beginning of our trip. We normally stay at the Poly, but after visiting the BW at our last trip we all want to give it a try. I think this would give us a chance to visit the MK easier on our first day and give us our Poly fix.

Why not? We're trying a split stay ourselves this time. Camping for the first 5 nights is allowing us to afford 2 nights at YC. I realize yours isn't about money, but location, but that did come into our decision as well. A night near the MK sounds like a lovely way to start a vacation.

Sounds like a plan, but are you sure you'll be able to leave the Polynesian after just one night? I'd be crying, kicking and screaming as they dragged me away! :) I just love it there. A few years back they overbooked and made us leave after a few days. My poor little heart had such an ache!

I was thinking the same thing about leaving the Polynesian. Maybe we should stay two days at the Poly and 3 at the BWI-- A true split stay??

I don't know if you have kids or not but we split our stay one year and it was a not a great idea. We stayed at the Poly for a few nights and then went over to the BWV for a few nights. I packed a day bag with the things I thought I needed. We couldn't check in until 4pm, we didn't wait around we went to the parks. By the time we got back we had to have our luggage sent to our room, unpack everything again. We thought it would be fun but the transferring between rooms was a pain. We still had fun.

Splitting a stay is a pain in the butt. You have to pack up all your crap and be out of the first hotel by 11:00. If you plan on going to a park that morning, that means having it all packed up the night before and clearing out first thing in the a.m.

Then you can't get in to the next room - often until 3:00 or 4:00. So, if you went to a park that morning, there is nowhere to go to take a break. Once, you're in, you have to unpack again.

Then you have to pack up again when it is time to leave.

Did it once, thought it wouldn't be a big deal - hated it.

I say pick a resort and stick with it. (I'd pick Poly over BWV, but that's me. :) )
