Short story long....and I am hoping those veteran split stayers could help me out...

We booked free dining, checking in on Aug 22-28, stay at Contemporary. I called before the promo ended to see if we could add days to our package and the cast member canceled out my garden view wing and booked me club level so I could receive the 2 nights added to my package at an additional $3000 (um no, not what I asked, I asked if I could have days added to my current package, and she was very cold and rude, not very disney like, first time I really ever encountered someone like that on the phone), so I had to wait for guest services to come on and give me my old reservation back...it was a long process, which is why I am coming on here to ask questions about split stays instead of calling Disney because...sometimes the CMs on the phone don't know everything like you all do lol.

So as I mentioned I would like to stay 28, 29, and check out the 30th so we were thinking of hopping it over to YC and to stay the nights there, as the only available rooms at CR are now Tower rooms and a little more pricier. I know those last 2 days I will no longer be on DDP, but I have until midnight on the 28th to use my credits right? And I can still reuse my refilable mug At YC bc they give you a few extra days right?
When moving from one hotel to another does a CM handle your luggage from one resort to another? Or is this up to the guest? How does one get to their new destination for check in?
Tickets...do I just add days to my original package at the contemporary? Then am I using 2 magic bands those last 2 days?
When can I book FPs during my YC stay? 60 days from THAT check in day? Am I linking the tickets to that room? (I feel like IDK how to do this lol as I have always booked a package not a room only).
And finally magical express pick up, if I call do they put it in notes or something that I am moving to YC and I am to be picked up there? Thanks!
I guess is it worth it, is it a lot of hustle and bustle to move, does it to take a lot of time out of your day to move from one resort to another?
Thanks so much for your patience...if there's anything else you could think of that I may have forgotten please let me know.
We have never stayed at Contemporary, and we have stayed at BC but not YC.

Not sure on food/drink items as we pay out of pocket for those, so hopefully someone else can help.

When we split stayed, we moved our own luggage cause we had a car, but bell services will transfer it from hotel to hotel for you. As for tickets and magic bands those are linked to your MDE and not your hotel for use, only for FP availability dates. I've heard people say it's been open for 60+ that covers their second stay, and others the system hasn't recognized that second stay and had to call in to have a CM make those later day FP's. We were able to book all days out when our first FP window opened, no problems at all.

As for magical express, I received in the mail my info for the 1st hotel and then when I hopped to the 2nd hotel they had my departure info for me the 2nd to last day of check out like normal. I had no problems whatsoever with anything during our split. I was worried since we'd never done it before but everything is actually pretty smooth. It didn't take any time away from our days aside from the normal check-on process. We asked to check in early and had to go to the desk for that. If you do the online check-in you wouldn't even have to worry about that time lost. Just be sure to check out of the 1st hotel before you do the online check in at the 2nd.

Thanks, I thought I posted it under the resorts board, my computer has been jumpy lately. I copied and pasted, but IDK how to delete this thread now from here

I've done a split stay once and really enjoyed it. However I'm no expert.

On the morning I was moving to the other resort I brought my luggage down to the front desk. I guess you could call for bell service. Anyway they transferred the luggage for me. It took till around 3 PM for me to get my luggage at the other resort.

With fast passes you are able to book both trips at the 60 day mark however with dining you need to do it separately.

Disney doesn't recognize "split stays" its just a term used here so go into it knowing your booking two completely separate reservations back to back.
You have the entire check out day to use your dining credits and iirc the mug is good for a week.

Purchase tickets long enough for both stays with the package at CR and they will be good for the entire trip, you will be able to book all days of FP on T60 from the first stay. ADRS will be 180 from the first day of each stay.

Bell services will transfer your bags for you but you need to make arrangements at CR to have them sent to YC, they will be available after check in time for pick up or you can call to have them delivered to your room.

Transportation is up to you, we hit a park for the day and then return to the 2nd resort via Disney transportation after check in time. Others use a ride share for transfer and bring their own bags.

DME can be booked as two one way trips, using the appropriate reservation number for each leg.

Magic bands are interchangeable, you can customize both sets and use them for the entire trip (regardless of the reservation they came with) or you can decline a set and just use one band for the entire trip.

The deposits will be completely separate as well. You will have the package requirements for the fist reservation (I have never booked a package so I can't comment) and the room only requirements for the 2nd which is one night deposit and the remainder at check in.

1) Yes, your dining credits will expire at midnight on August 28. You should be able to continue to use your mug. If you have issues, speak to someone in the YC QS.
2) You can either give your luggage to bell services at CR and have them transfer them to YC for you, or you can hop in a Minnie Van/cab/lyft/uber and take them to YC yourself. I, personally, don't like the luggage transfer as the luggage doesn't get to the second resort until quite late in the day and I like to eliminate the possibility of our luggage getting lost. We cab it over to the second resort, bring our luggage to that resort's bell services (or the room if it's already ready!) and then go about our day. If you go this route, you may want to consider going to DHS or EP that day as it will be really convenient after dropping your luggage off at YC.
3) Tickets - yes add them to your CR stay. Your MB's are attached to the info in your MDE not tickets or a resort stay, so both of your MB's will work for BOTH stays.
4) You should be able to book all FP+ 60 days prior to your CR stay. You aren't linking tickets to any room. Tickets will be linked to guest profiles in your MDE account and your MB's will pull the info from there.
5) Magical Express - when you call, simply give them both reservation numbers and your flight info. They will drop you off at CR and pick you up at YC.
6) If planned well, a split stay transfer doesn't have to take up much of your day.

We are thinking of 5 days at the Dolphin - then 5 days at another hotel - DS or moderate for a better price

We love split stays- the only real issue is its a logistical nightmare to plan, as we want to visit the parks we are closest to while considering park hours, events, etc. What we've don't the last few times is have one adult Lyft over to the second resort with the luggage while the other and the kids head to wherever, then we meet up. I like to try to check in earlier rather than later and a few times it has taken forever to get our luggage when we just sent it over. If you won't need anything until evening you'll probably be ok to send it, but it can unexpectedly take longer sometimes.
As far as dining, you'll only be able to book the first leg of your trip online, but if you call they can do it over the phone with you for the second part ( 180 days out).
Don't know about packages, we don't do them.

This split sounds like a great plan! I love split stays and prefer them so we can try more resorts! The only snag we have had is wishing we had brought clothes to change into in our park bag on our transfer day. If you have the hotel transfer your luggage (which I will still do in the future), you likely won’t see it until evening. We got caught in a rainstorm and were drenched, even with ponchos. We spent an uncomfortable couple hours waiting on dry clothes! I know some people prefer to transfer there own luggage because of this.
