Hello all!
Very helpful forum! Heading to Disney in Sept. and considering split stay betw. a deluxe and mod. (budget reasons). If I do 3 nights at each, can I still get the free dining promotion that's available for a minimum 5-night stay?

Thanks so much!

No...that would be two different reservations all together. You will have to stay 5 nights at one resort. Even if you could, you would be required to buy tickets for each reservations to get FD.

If budget is the concern then stay at the mod....there is not a huge difference between mod and deluxe. If you wanted to try the deluxe resort just for fun then stay the first 5 nights at the mod to get FD and then for your last night move to the deluxe. Alternately, stay your first night at a value resort and then move to the mod.

Yes, you can do a split stay....the minimum nights for a free dining package is 3 nights, not 5. However, if you do a split stay you will need to purchase a 2-day base ticket with each stay so it may make it cost prohibitive.

The other thing is that both of your choices need to have rooms available for FD option. Not all rooms are available with plan AND NOT all resorts. If rooms are available in each for free dining then 2 seperate un-linked reservations should be made for at least the minimun nights required for FD and tix with both pkgs for everyone.. Have disney transfer your bags.

Also with 2 reservations, how does it effect Mag express service if flying into Orlando???(im interested in this)

As the pp said, the requirement for FD is a minimum stay of 3 nights, so you can do it, but a 2 day base ticket would have to be purchased with each stay. Disney doesn't see that as a split stay, but rather 2 separate reservations. The FD wouldn't carry over to the 2nd resort as that would be a new reservation, which is why a ticket purchase is required. You could always do FD at a mod for the first few nights and then book a room only reservation at a deluxe for the last couple of nights, but get enough tickets with your package to cover the whole trip. You would then have to pay OOP for your meals at the end, but depending on what time of day you get in at the beginning of your trip and when you start using your DDP credits, you might have some credits left over on the day of the resort change to use as those credits would expire at midnight that day. Good luck :wizard:.

Ahhh, I had not even considered the whole ticket-side of the "package" & how that would gum-up the works -- of course! And the way Disney prices the tickets, 2 separate reservations each with tickets makes the split-stay not cost-effective at all.
Thanks, all, for enlightening me (so quickly, too!) I will consider the helpful suggestions you gave, too. I certainly came to the right place for help!

I've done split stays before, with the 2-day ticket requirements. Taken literally, the idea of using one set of 2-day tickets for the first reservation, then the second set of 2-day tickets for the second reservation, makes your ticket expenditure high.

(prices don't include 6.5% tax)
(1st Reservation) 2-day tickets upgraded to 3-day tickets = $232 each
(2nd Reservation) 2-day tickets upgraded to 3-day tickets = $232 each
Total for 6-day tickets per person: $464

Here's a better plan
(1st Reservation) 2-day tickets upgraded to 6-day tickets = $259 each
(2nd Reservation) 2-day tickets, unused, to take home for next trip = $168 each
Total for 6-day tickets per person: $259
Bonus: You have prepaid 2-day tickets to apply to next trip, or sell outright.

The first 4 days of a MYW ticket are the most expensively priced. After 4 days, park days only cost $8+tax each, up to max 10 days. So, it's cheaper to upgrade your first set of tickets for your whole trip, and take the second set of tickets home. Unused MYW tickets never expire, and are completely transferable. You can ask the Concierge desk to remove your 2nd set of tickets from your 2nd KTTW cards, and place the tickets on separate cards. Put these cards in an envelope or baggie and label them.
