Split stay to reduce length of stay for ddp

What's the best way to do a split stay in order to shave a day or two off the dining plan- 7 nights with 5 days of dining?

I know having a 5 day stay first and then a 2 day would work best probably. However, our family gets in late the check-in day and I would like to have a nice meal on the last night.

Any ideas?

Doing a split stay I prefer to have the shorter stay first. You can stay mostly packed and then settle in more when you check into your next resort. Having the ddp for the second reservation also allows you to take advantage of credits first thing on check in day for the second reservation. Our family tend to focus on the parks more the first couple days and more on dining as the trip progresses.

If you are doing 7 nights, I would plan 3 and 4. I think that gives you a built in break in the middle of the trip. You can sleep in a bit, then plan a few hours somewhere until you can check into the new room. We do this often and it works well for us.

If I'm understanding correctly, the parameters are:

1. Seven night total stay
2. 5 days (nights) of dining
3. Nice meal on last night (assuming here that the desire is for this meal to be covered under the DDP)

Really, the only way to fulfill all the parameters are to do 2 nights on one stay up front without the DDP, then 5 nights on another stay on the dining plan on the back end.

Agree with DisBuckMan that with your requirements you'll have to do the 2 night stay first, followed by the 5 night stay with the dining plan.

You could book a room only for the first stay and buy your tickets separately for the entire length of the vacation either from Disney or an authorized third party seller.

The second stay will have to be a package since you want to add the dining plan, but since you are paying for the dining plan you can call (cannot do it online) and book a ticketless package.

Thank you for your posts. Any other split stay advice is welcome.
Not advice, just listing your options. You want five nights (not days, that's not how the dining plans work) out of a seven night stay to be covered by the dining plan. You want a DDP-"paid" dinner on your last night.
  1. Two separate reservations, two nights then five nights.
  2. Three separate reservations, one night then five nights then one night.
  3. Two separate resevations, five nights then two night.
Depends what you mean by "and I would like to have a nice meal on the last night". Last night of your resort stay? Or last night after you check out before you physically leave the area, late?

Number 3 will not work, no matter what.
Number 2 will work if last night means the night before you leave the area, because your dining plan credits will expire at 11:59 PM that evening.
Number 1 will work in either scenario ( :thumbsup2 DisBuckMan!). You do run the risk of having to change rooms.
