I need some help, I have never done a split stay before...

We are going with in-laws who are only staying a partial week, thus the reason we can't stay in a Villa the whole week...

We arrive on Saturday and are just staying at the Dolphin (just DH, DS and me), then on Sunday we check into our Villa at the Boardwalk, then when they leave we are moving to the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We are doing the Deluxe Dining plan while at the Bordwalk, but not doing a dining plan at AKL, so I have that worked out.

I need help with the ticket? Can DH, DS and myself buy a 9 day park hopper MYW ticket with water option at the Dolphin, or at the DHS (we want to we get to the BWV and AKL, can they add the ticket to our KTTK? Or will weach lunch their on Sat and stoll DS around during his nap). If so then when e just be stuck with a seperate ticket all week, are the tickets not attached to a KTTK, a card, paper, what? Would it be easier if we stayed that first night at a Disney resort and not the Dolphin?

I'm not sure if this answers your question or not, but when we went in March 2008, we had a package with a 10 day park hopper at AKL and then a room only reservation at YC. After 5 days at AKL, we moved to YC and when we did this, they were able to move the tickets from the AKL KTTW card to the YC KTTW card so that it was not necessary to carry separate room cards and ticket cards around for the rest of the trip.

Thank you - that does help. My DH wants only 1 card to carry if possible.

Now I just need to know if I should buy the ticket at the Dolphin, DHS, or change to a real Disney resort for my first day....

They will handle each resort as a separate package. They have in our case anyway and we stay split stays every trip. If we spend a week at say, the Poly we get our KTTW for the week of the Polynesian stay with the dates on the pass. Then when we transfer to to say, the Boardwalk, we get NEW KTTW with new dates on them. That is how it has always worked for us in the past.

I guess you could always buy the passes outside of any pkg you are going on and have them for the whole length of time you are there, but in my experience, they treat each resort as a separate pkg or separate vacation.

I would not mess with the tickets and would leave them separate, due to the dining plan credits. It is very easy to mess up the credits when adding or changing ticket options.

Just buy the 9 day tickets by themselves and leave them alone.

Having separate tickets is not that bad, it makes it easier to have one person hold all of the tickets for FP purposes. That way if a person in your party wants to buy something they still have their KTTW card. If someone wants to return to the hotel, they will have their key, they won't get all the way back to the hotel and realize they don't have a key.

There are upsides.

Best and cheapest advice. If you have a package then you are required to buy a ticket. Upgrade the ticket you get at Boardwalk to a 9 day ticket(upgrade at the park). Don't buy seperate tickets. its too expensive that way. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the Dolphin and DTD and rest.

Do you have a ticket with your package or did your inlaws book with APs?

I have to agree with Becca's first post, ESPECIALLY since you have the dining option on it. That can easily get screwed up with changing resorts and using the same KTTW. They create your KTTW at each resort you stay at with all options attached to that KTTW, so your KTTW from the first resort will NOT have your water park option and dining plan on it for your second resort, IF you did not have that option at the first resort.

The first hotel, the Dolphin will be for the Dolphin days, then the next KTTW will be for the next resort and your last KTTW will be for AKL. Each has their own options that you bought for each resort on them. I know it sounds complicated , but KKTW do not carry over from resort to resort. When DH and I go, we always put the old KTTW pass in our suitcase at the very, very bottom so we don't mix it up with our next resort. We place our new current KTTW in our lanyard clear plastic pouch and carry it around our necks that way.

2 $158.69
3 $225.78
4 $233.24
5 $236.43
6 $239.63

If you bought a 1 day (Dolphin) and a 4 day (Boardwalk) and 4 day AKL
It would cost $860 per person including park hopping and water parks. But to buy a 9 day ticket is $356 per person. For the extra money I'd carry 5 room keys

If you don't have any tickets purchased with a package (only way to do this is if the inlaws booked with APs). Then purchase 9 day tickets on separate media and keep those tickets for the rest of your vacation.

If you have tickets on your package then upgrade those at check in at Boardwalk and don't buy tickets at the Dolphin. You can try moving the tickets to the AKL KTTW card, but if you can't it's not a big deal and absolutely don't try if you have any dining credits left, that you want to use that day.

Thank you everyone for the replies. We do not have a package, so I am just going to buy a 9 day Park Hopper at the beginning. I like the idea of on person taking the tickets to go get fastpasses, I did not think of that.

Would it be easier to buy it at Dolphin at check in or at the DHS (so hard not to say MGM)?

If you have dining you have a package.

We are at the Villas with DVC, so we can get dining withour park tickets. Also, I think if you have AP's you can get dining without tickets.
:thumbsup2

It might be easiest to get the tickets at the Dolphin, you don't want to have to stand in another line at DHS.

You can also order them online but you will have to activate them at the park. I like buying them at the park better. They seem to know more than the hotels do.
