Split stay "moving day" question?

We are doing our first split stay this Nov, 3 nights @ Art of Animation and 6 nights @ Beach Club. I've read somewhere on the boards that Disney will transfer your luggage for you if you want, 2 questions:
1. Is this in fact true?
2. Am I better off just taking my luggage with me?
Also, is moving day a "wasted" day? DH is very unhappy with my decision to do a split stay, he feels we are wasting a whole day by having to move.

Thanks,
Laurie:goodvibes

1. Yes, Disney will take care of moving it for you. It won't get to your room until the afternoon but they take care of it.
2. What we did was we sent our big luggage with Disney and we took the computer and a carry on bag with bathing suits and stuff with us in a cab over to the 2nd resort. That way if we wanted we could swim or whatever. And taking the cab meant we could be checked in and to the park at Rope Drop! Worked great.

I don't know if the same applies with cash rooms but when we move from one resort to another, they will not put the luggage in the room until someone calls bell services and have them bring it.

It is still the best way to resort hop. Just call bell services the day you are checking out of first hotel and inform them you are moving to the second hotel. Easy breezy.

Agree that bell services will take good care of you.

But if you had rental car, I would keep my luggage with me on a split stay. It is slightly easier to retrieve things you may need before next room opens up.

Wishing you pixie dust that your next room is ready early!!

We love split stays and do them regularly. It is NOT a wasted day. You wake up, get dressed, get your bags ready, call Bell Services to pick up your bags and transfer them to your new resort, hit the park and go check in to your new resort once you leave the parks. It's a regular day with the exception of having to call bell services or taking your luggage to bell services to have them transferred to the new resort. It's an extra 5 minute hassle but worth it as you don't have to keep your luggage/valuables in your car.

All of the above is true, and yes as someone else said, they don't just deliver your bags to your room at the new resort, you have to call down for them & be present for them to deliver.

We did 2 split stays this year, both times our room at the 2nd resort wasn't ready til almost 4pm. We choose to just hang out at the new resort & wait. It didn't feel like a wasted day for us since it was our planned "down" day anyway. We explored the resort & had a leisurely late lunch, and then headed out to a park once we got in the new room.

I personally will not leave valuable items in my luggage for transfer. YMMV but I take anything valuable along with me.

Not to piggy back on, but for DVC, do you take your bags to the desk? We are doing a split stay as well and I just want to make sure it goes smoothly.

I always take the bags to the bell services desk and request a transfer. If you want to you can call and have bell services come pick them up in the room. I just prefer not to do that.

Split stays are not a wasted day, but obviously there are some inconveniences. -You do need to pack for the move.
-Call and tip Bell Services.
-Checkout(skip for priority checkout)
-At some point, leave or delay park time to check in.
-Make sure to transfer tickets to new KTW cards (if applicable)
-Call/tip Bell Services at new hotel and get bags delivered
-Unpack

I have done a few split stays and Disney does make it as easy as possible.

Once I did take the bags down but it was just easier to have them come pick them up and have them tag the bags for the next location.

I am going down in a couple of weeks. How I usually plan it on doing split stays, as always, I am moving from AKV to BLT. I will go to Contemporary at 7:30am and check in, walk to MK. Have a 8am ressie at Crystal Palace. Make sure they text me when room is ready and then walk back to BLT.

Question - we are staying at AKL for 3 days before our CSR package. Planning on having bottled water (2 cases) delivered to AKL. Will bell services transfer that to CSR with our luggage?

We have done a split stay before, but I cannot recall too much of it. The plan is to get up and check out of AKL as early as possible. Give our luggage to bell services, and then head to AK for the morning/early afternoon. Go back to CSR, check in, and then go swimming. Will we need to call bell services at CSR when we get there to have our luggage delivered? Does someone need to be in the room?

Or do you think we should split up after we check out of AKL...one of us taking the kids to AK and the other going to CSR to check in? So when we go to AK, we just need to wait for the text about room location? Is that how they still do it?

I am all messed up now because the original plan had called for a rental car and we would just keep our luggage in that prior to the room being ready at CSR...but we did away with that option now. So we are at the mercy of the busses and Disney timing :)

We did our first split stay in January and will be doing another one on our upcoming trip. Disney makes it as easy as possible for you. We were going from BCV to SSR...we called Bell Services in the morning and had them pick up our luggage and then told them we were transferring over to SSR. The Bellman gave us a slip of paper so we could retrieve our baggages at SSR. It was so easy peasy and no it did not eat up the entire day for us. In fact on our upcoming trip, our transfer day is also our AK day. Before heading over to the park, we will check out of Poly and let Bell Services know we are transferring over to BLT then head to AK. Sometime after lunch, we plan on going over to BLT to check-in regardless if our bags are there yet or not.

I have a different opinion of split stays, they are not for me. I am a "nester". I like to unpack and settle in once.
I agree with OP's DH, it feels like a "wasted" day to me. I realize that you can go to a park, but you are virtually "Homeless" for a full day.
And nobody has mentioned that the luggage transfer process does not occur until mid to late afternoon. So your luggage will not be available until late afternoon at your new resort.
Good Luck and have fun

I wouldn't split up. Just enjoy your morning and then head to the next rersort. We always do online checkin and that makes arriving at the next resort a quick process. We've done 3 split stays and always used bell services. We would go to the park of our choice and the head to the new resort in the afternoon. We always have them move everything and have never had a problem. We also pack a bag with swimsuits. I never expect our room to be ready before 4. So we either stay at a park until then, or enjoy swimming and exploring the resort until that time. We're doing a split stay between VWL and AKV for are next trip and are excited to be able to enjoy two great resorts!

They transferred from AS Music to AKL for me a bag that contained four bottles of Diet Coke, a box of poptarts and a bag of popcorn, so they can transfer non-perishable food and beverage items that are not in fragile packaging. If you have a LOT of water that needs to be transferred it's up to you to pack it up somehow.

The previous poster is correct in that the luggage transfer is usually late in the afternoon. They generally tell me the transfers will arrive around 3 PM or after. So if you need anything for the late afternoon or the evening, keep it with you.

Thank you all so much for the advice!!! It sounds like a pretty easy process, now I can put DH's mind at ease. Since we will only be in the first resort 3 days I don't plan on fully unpacking so re-packing shouldn't be a big deal.

-Make sure to transfer tickets to new KTW cards (if applicable)

.

I did not know I could transfer my tickets to my new KTW card! Where do I have to go to do this?

Thanks again, you have all been very helpful:worship:

If you check in before you go to the parks, they will give you a new set of keys. However, you won't be given a room number if nothing is available. They will text you with the room number and then you can use the KTTW card to enter the room.

Now if you go straight to the parks and don't check in at next hotel, you can still use the old cards until you receive the new ones. Then when you check in, they will transfer remaining usage to new cards.

They will do this at resort check in or do I have to go to guest services at the park? Sorry I'm a little confused:confused3

Our plan is to check out of AofA, go check in @ BC and then either play mini golf or head to DTD, not planning a park until the evening.
Thanks again,
Laurie
