We have never done a split stay. We will not have a car.
Should we trust Disney to move our luggage or get an Uber and take them with us ? Has anyone had trouble with Disney doing it? If we give our luggage to bell services how long before it will get to the other resort?

I done both. Sometimes your luggage doesn't get to the next resort till late in afternoon (Pre Covid). But will do this if I am out and about and won't be there till after check in.
Or take a cab/uber and check in to the next resort with your luggage. Then it will be there when you get in the room(again Pre Covid)

We have done it both ways. The first time we did a split stay I had Disney move our luggage and it took forever to show up in our room. After that, we’ve always moved our luggage ourselves. I think a lot depends on if you want to go directly to a park after checking out of resort #1. For us, we always head right to resort #2, check in, and either go to our new room (yes, some have been ready) or drop our luggage with bell services and then head to a park.

The delivery can be late afternoon as mentioned. We just head out to the parks from resort 1, then return in the evening to resort 2 to change for dinner... luggage is always there by then. If you are going directly to your second resort and need your luggage then you should take it with you.

We plan to go straight to resort #2. I wonder if we brought our swim suits with us if we could swim until our room is ready. Then let Disney deliver our luggage. If we did online check in we wouldn’t have to go to the desk I hope. I don’t want to walk into the lobby after getting out of the pool😂. I guess we could change some where. It will be Copper Creek at WL.

Yes, you can swim until your room is ready. Just know your luggage may not show up until well after dinner. Depending on what your plans are for later in the day, you may want to pack whatever you may need in a bag that you keep with you at the pool or drop at bell services.

If you are going straight to the new resort, how are you getting there without using a Lyft or taxi? Seems a pain to go to a park and wait on a bus for the new resort just to not take luggage with you.

True I never thought of that. I think we will just get an Uber. Even though my granddaughter doesn’t like taking them lol. We have before, she just doesn’t trust strangers.

We have done both ways. Totally depends on the plan for the day, if we need to be somewhere early, how long we plan to be out, etc.

Usually if we have plans, we’ll be out most of the day, and we won’t need anything in our bags, we’ll let Disney transfer the bags.

If we don’t have any plans or otherwise want to go ahead and get to resort #2, we’ll move ourselves.

Really just depends.

The process Disney uses to transfer luggage from one resort to another is a large-scale one that involves every Disney resort plus the Swolphin. It's a massively coordinated effort.

All luggage to be transferred, no matter when you drop it off at Bell Services, begins its actual movement at roughly 1pm. Luggage from each resort is loaded on a truck and taken to a central processing facility where it is sorted and put on a truck for it's new resort. It typically takes about 3 hours, so luggage will usually be your new resort about 4pm. It can be sooner than that, and is sometimes later; depending on the volume of transfers and the number of CMs they have available.

Once the luggage arrives at the new resort, Bell Services will not deliver it to your room automatically - you must call from your room and ask them to deliver it. You can also collect it from them yourself if you want. Bell Services occasionally delivers transferred luggage without being called, but don't expect that - it's not the norm.
