Split stay, is it worth the hassle?

just got back from doing a split stay. we did have a car. We left OKW about 10:30 am, and checked into WL about 11. Our room wasn't ready, so we left our stuff with bell services and went swimming. I had packed swimsuits and coverups in a separate bag and kept it with me. we changed in the restrooms down by the pool and rented a locker for wallets and DH's camera. Our room was ready within an hour and bell services brought our stuff up within minutes of calling for it. Our styro cooler and a box of diet cokes were stored in a refrigerator, which was a nice touch. I was very happy with how smooth the transition was.

We have done split stays 3 times but hope to not do any more. We don't like to be without a room from 11 to 4 as that is the time we like to rest in our room. We have always transported our own bags and that is no problem but for us not having a room midday is. Also checkin can take some time and we like to spend time relaxing or at the parks. ( However as an affordable way to try a deluxe we may do a split stay someday!)

We almost always split our stays and have never found them a hassle or remotely inconveneient. Maybe because we go off peak and we don't unpack while there. We live out of our suitcases. ? I dunno. But they move your luggage so easily and we just never had any worries. it was the only thing that allowed us to experience so many of the deluxe resorts as we usually can't afford a stay there for the duration of our vacations. And for those that can't get to WDW more than every 3 or more years, it's a GREAT way to experience more of the magic and we find the move one more thing to look forward to on the trip!:thumbsup2 YES, we look forward to it! The only way you can know for sure if you aren't sure it to try it. :cheer2:

I'm so glad someone inquired about this, we are considering doing a split on our next stay. We are thinking 6 days at POP with FD, and 4 days at AKL with my airline discount. I can't wait to try another new resort. I was thinking the second half of our stay could be more relaxing and laid back, less time at the parks. Thanks for all the info. :)

I did a split stay this time and I Hated it! I even stayed at the same hotel (so not much moving) and just changed room category. It stinks to have to be out by 11 and then we didn't get into our room before the P&PP so we got into around 1 am. The room wasn't stocked, looked as if it hadn't been finished cleaning in it and it was so late, we just wanted to sleep. Unfortunately, we had to wait for some soap to be delivered since we wanted to wash our hands after going the bathroom, before going to sleep. I never want to do that again!

I suppose if you want or need your room after you leave in the morning before late afternoon, then it might be an issue. We were always in the parks though all day until dinner so it was great.
