This may be the stupidest idea I've ever had, but we are thinking of staying at AKL in January, '09. We'd like to stay concierge for the first few nights to take advantage of the sunrise safari. Then we would switch to a smaller, standard room for the rest of our stay.

Does this make any sense at all? The savings would be about $400, which would go toward meals during the concierge portion of the week (no dining plan those days) and souvenirs. We could swing concierge the whole time, but would rather not... maybe...

Has anyone ever done this? Does it make sense? If we're gonna switch rooms, should we switch resorts, too? :confused3

TIA,
Hillary

yes it does and it sounds wonderful. we also have done something like what you want to do. We have several times changes resorts during our stay made it fun to see each one.

$$400 is a lot of money...I would switch --my vote would be to switch resorts. Maybe stay closer to another park you may enjoy. We had the same plan a few years back after a concierge stay at the poly, we were upgraded to concierge at AKL!! And I was thinking, we'll I really don't want to lose our safari view, but ok. If I remember the safari is expensive...so think of it as a freebie if you switch.

So you would do a package for the first part of your trip, then change to a "room only" ? or just book them both as room onlys?

Only asking because if you do a package then you'd have to purchase a one day ticket to the ressie's...

Good way to experience both concierge & standards:)

Room only first, then switch to package (probably. It might be too big of a PITA to add dining)

This sounds like a perfectly good option. We are doing a split-stay, same resort ourselves this July. We are doing it so we can have package first with dining, then room only second part. This gives us some dining but leaves us open for other options the second half.

You plan sounds fine. The only thing is if you do a package the second part then you must get at least one day park ticket with it. You won't be able to get them until the package starts so if you plan to go to parks in the first stay you will have to get separate tickets for that which would be more costly.

What about your tickets? if you do a package last, you will need to purchase tickets. You may want to consider doing a package first..say you are going for 7 nights..

-book a package for 3 nights with 8 day tickets
-room only for the remaining 4 nights.. or however many nights you want to split up.
