Split Stay - Getting to the next hotel?

How does it work with a split stay and transportation between resorts? I know buses don't go from resort to resort and one must go to a park first. Is this what we'd have to do to get to our next hotel? Will Disney transfer our luggage for us?

There are basically 2 options.

1. Check out of resort #1 with all your luggage with you. Call a cab to take you to resort #2. Check in to resort #2. If your room is not ready, Bell Services at resort #2 will hold your bags while you go to a park or hang by the pool.

2. Call Bell Services at resort #1 and tell them you are moving to resort #2. They will come pick up your luggage and deliver it to resort #2. (It usually won't arrive until after 3PM) Check out of resort #1. Take a bus/boat/monorail to a park for the day. Take bus/boat/monorail to resort #2 and check in. If it's after 3 or 4 PM, contact Bell Services at resort #2 and ask them to bring up your luggage.

After doing both, we much prefer option #2. It feels like we don't lose as much park time and I detest having to deal with our luggage while on vacation. I get tired of always being the pack mule.

Yes Disney will move your bags for you, but it may take awhile so anything you need in the next few hours keep with you. You just call bell services and tell them what time to pick them up, they will come to your room and give you a receipt for them and then you can go off to play. When you get checked into the next resort just call their bell services and they will bring them to your room. We have done this several times and would just do what we would normally do until after 3 then catch the resort bus over to the next resort from what ever park we were in, check in, get the new room, and give them a call. Usually the luggage would be there by 5.
