We’re staying at Pop for 8 days, and found that we now need to add an extra day to our trip due to a flight change. We have the option of
a) booking the extra night at Pop, but in a different room category since our original Standard view has since sold out which means we may might have to switch rooms at the end of our stay or
b) booking a split stay at Port Orleans, which would be for one night only

Will there be any issues with our luggage or can guest services transfer everything for us to the new room?

Do you think it’s worth the trouble switching resorts for just one night? We’ve never been to POR before.

If it were me, I'd book just a single evening at the different rate and when I checked in at the resort see if they could merge the reservations so you don't have to change rooms. It's not guaranteed but I also feel that if you had to switch rooms it would be easier to do at the same resort vs. hopping over to another.

a) Since you are booking a different room category for the extra night, expect that you will have to change rooms. When you arrive you can ask if you can remain in the same room and you might receive some pixie dust, but don't count on it. Instead, you can keep checking to see if a room in the same category as your 8 night stay becomes available and book it. Once both reservations are in the same room category you can call and let them know you have a continuing reservation and request that you remain in the same room.

b) It depends on how much you would like to stay at POR.

c) If you decide to remain at Pop, you can take your luggage down to luggage assistance in the morning and once you are in new room you can call and have it delivered or pick it up yourself. If you decide to book POR you can have luggage assistance transfer your luggage from Pop to POR, but your bags will not be at POR until late afternoon. Or you can take uber, lyft, taxi or your own car to take your luggage to POR and have it stored until your room is ready. In either case, once you are in your room you can call and have your bags brought to the room or you can pick them up yourself.

d) It's a matter of what you would like. Disney makes transferring luggage fairly easy, but if you prefer to transfer the bags yourself it would take time out of the morning. However, if you would like to explore POR this might be a good opportunity .

I would only do a split stay to POR if I were willing to transfer my luggage myself via taxi/lyft/uber/minnie van. I would never risk something going wrong the day before a flight.

I would stay at pop. As a pp said, you can just pick your own luggage up and not need to wait for it when you check in to the new room. Unless, of course, you Uber with it to PO. Personally, I’d rather just stay at pop since it’s only a single day.

For just one night, it seems like a lot of hassle to move resorts and wait for luggage. So much easier to walk over to a new building at the same resort with your luggage

I love split stays, but I’m always hesitant to do a single night at a Resort that’s new to me. What are your plans for that second last day? If you’re at a park all day, then you’d only have the night and then morning to check out PO. What time is your flight? If you were planning more Resort time, then you might have to wait until 3pm (or later) before you can access the room and then have to be out by 11am. You can almost get the same experience by Resort hopping while still staying at Pop. Personally, I would feel like I barely stayed at PO and would end my trip feeling like I missed something. If it were me, I’d either switch rooms at Pop or (depending on availability) price out the possibility of doing at least 2 nights at PO.

Also, if I’m reading your post correctly, then your original stay is in a Standard room and the lone night would be Preferred. So you may have more luck merging the two reservations, as you’d technically be asking for a downgrade on the last night. It would be worth the ask. Have you already called to see if they’re able to add a night? I’ve been successful calling even though the website said there was no availability.

Thanks everyone for your replies. We had planned a park day for our second to last day, and then Disney Springs for the day we leave. We will be relying on Park transportation and the Magical Express since we aren’t renting a car for this trip. Our flight doesn’t leave until 9PM so we have a full day, but from reading everyone’s comments, it looks like switching resorts for one night would be a lot of hassle, and not enough time to fully enjoy everything POR has to offer.

On the bright side, it gives us a reason to go back and check it out next trip. :)

If they're able to keep you in the same room but without pixie dust, do ask for a credit.

We were able to add a night at a Value for one extra night. (Had standard, but only Preferred was available.) Went to check in desk, told them we were willing to pay for the preferred room, but did not want to switch rooms for the last night (DH was sick). They didn't have any problem doing it and did not charge us for preferred. Obviously no guarantee, but if you ask, they may be able to accommodate.

I dont see how transferring the bags yourself takes time out of the morning, since you'll need to go to POR anyway to check in. The quickest way is to take uber or lyft. Thats what I did. Doing it "the disney way" takes waaaay longer. It'll be about 3 hours (if your lucky) for disney to transfer your luggage from POP to POR. Then to get to POR from POP, you'll have to take a bus to a park, then a bus to POR.

Fellow Torontonian and Raps fan here! Great advice. If we do book POR, we'll definitely look into an uber or lyft.

We stayed at POP in 2018. The first night was a separate reservation in a preferred room. The remaining 5 nights were in a standard room. When I checked in, I asked about the logistics of switching rooms (we were prepared to check out in the morning and check back in to the standard room, and store our luggage at Bell Services). The cast member told me we would be able to stay in the same room for the 6 nights, which we did.

Way more than three hours. Typically I believe they tell you some time after 4 (not how much after, but...) On the other hand, guests going to a park anyway, letting Disnsy transfer usually works.

Just out of curiosity were you flying with SW? This happened to me just before Canada Day Weekend and I was able to change my flight to arrive the day before, so Sept 14th instead of 15th. I booked an extra night at POP which gave me 2 separate reservations, I called yesterday and was able to link the 2 so it was just one reservation, maybe call and see if they will do that for you so it’s not a split stay. Mind you I was booked standard pool view for both.

Oh yes, i've waited longer than 3 hours before. One time it was almost SIX HOURS. But like you said, no biggie if youre going to the parks anyway.
