Split Stay Dining Reservations

I thought that if you had a split stay booked you could make dining reservations for the whole stay at 180 days out from the first day of the first stay but you would have to call to book reservations for the 2nd part of the split stay because you wouldn't have access to those dates online.

If this not right or did it change at some point? My wife called to try to make some reservations and they told her that she would have to wait until 180 days out from the first day of the 2nd part of the split stay.

I was almost positive they told me we just needed to call to book reservations for that time frame.

That changed about two years ago now. They locked it down to the "length of stay" as defined by a single resort reservation.

Some folks seem to have luck with MS creating a dummy reservation and booking the entire length. But you could do that yourself.

I just got off chat with MS asking about this and the response I got from them was "When you have a split stay, to book dining for the length of the entire stay and not just for the first reservation, at 180 days out, you will need to call Disney Vacation Club Member Services."

Wife is calling back now to try and book the 2nd part of our stay.

We've never been able to get the second leg of the split stay booked during the past few years, even with help from Member Services. Hurt us this year with BOG dinner during the first week in November (party breaks). That said, hope it worked out for you!

Second call to MS got it taken care of. They booked our reservations for the 2nd half of our stay.

We have a split stay. Rented DVC points through 3 different contracts. I had a thought to get dining for our full 12 days.

So, I'm thinking of booking a regular Disney resort reservation for everyone using my husbands MDE account (unlinked from my own) then at 180 days I'll make our dining reservations. After we have those I'll cancel the resort reservation and then link my husbands MDE account up to mine so I our split stay resort reservations are on the same account as our dining reservations. Do you think this would work?

^^I would wait until you were within the 180 day window of the second portion of your split stay before cancelling the dummy reservation^^

As a second data point -- I have a split stay of 2 days and 2 days in January. I made the first 3 days online -- and then I called DVC MS and was able to get them to book the last day for me. They have to go in and make some changes to the system, but DVC MS can definitely handle this for you.

When I had a DVC/resort split stay, I was able to book the entire trip at once.

We stayed DVC Sunday to Saturday, the a resort on Saturday to Wednesday.

This was just last November.

It is because I went to a resort for the second half of my stay?

They must have changed something. Last year, we had a split stay for November, both were DVC. We booked all of our ADRs at the 180 day window of the first stay. Fast passes worked the same way.
