Split Stay - Deluxe then Mod?

Has anyone ever done a split stay with a deluxe first, then drop back to a mod? Looking at 4-5 days at Poly then 4-5 days at a Mod (haven't picked yet). Is this crazy? We want the proximity to MK and the monorail at the start of the trip since we have kids 2 & 4, but we're not sure we can budget for Poly for the whole trip. Thanks for any opinions.

i highly recommend you do the moderate first because it would be so hard to leave and drop down to less amenities.

what if you did the wilderness lodge or contemporary garden wing and it would pretty much balance out in price since poly is rather expensive?

Aloha,

Recommend for you to reconsider your strategy. Start with the Mod (CSR), visit AK and DS. Then transfer and finish with the Deluxe (CR) and visit MK and Epcot via monorail. The goal is for each day to be better than the last and end on a good/high note!

If you go to Deluxe/MK first then your trip will end on a down note with a lesser Resort and Parks.

I would go with the moderate first too, then end with a deluxe. Last Aug we had a 9 night stay and did 4 nights at POR, then 5 nights at WL.
I agree with the poster who suggested looking into staying at WL or CR gaden wing the entire stay, it's sig. cheaper then Poly.
Although WL isn't on the monorail it has a fun boat ride to MK. CR is on the monorail.

Last summer we stayed at CSR and then GF and were thankful we hadn't booked in the reverse order. CSR is a great resort but GF was that much better.

I agree with the others. Start at the moderate and move up to the deluxe instead of doing it the other way around.

We have done this twice. Definately do the moderate first. We always go to MK the first day no matter what, but then try to do the parks closer to the resort where we are staying. Last summer we did CBR then the Poly. In that case you are closer to AK, DHS and Epcot while you are at CBR.

Good luck!!

That's a tough one!

We just did a split stay. Starting with a moderate and ending with a deluxe, like everyone said we should so we wouldn't be disappointed. We actually liked the moderate better! But our deluxe wasn't the Poly. So in your case I would probably say to start with the Poly if you can. Then go to the moderate. For a moderate I would definitely recommend CBR or POR (we have stayed at all 4 of them).

Whichever way you do it, just be sure to plan your park days around which resort you will be at to take the best advantage of things! Good luck! :goodvibes

A few years ago we went from a deluxe (AKL) to a value (POP) and then to a mod (POFQ) all in the same trip. I say do whatever works best for your family. If you plan on doing the MK area first, then the Poly is a lovely way to go.

It's not too bad going from a deluxe resort down during a trip, you just have to understand that it's going to be a bit different, that's all.

You could stay at CSR, which is a mod with deluxe amenities to ease your pain too! :goodvibes

We are going to do this on our next trip. We are going to stay at the AKL and then move to the CSR for the remainder of our trip. Now, it is easier for us to do the deluxe first and then the moderate because we know we WON'T be disappointed. We no longer choose to stay deluxe because we can't justify the cost with two boys in college and the CSR has everything we want in a resort (including queen beds). However, I've always wanted to stay at the AKL with a savannah view so we will do it for a few days prior to going home to the CSR.

However, for a first time doing a deluxe and a moderate, I agree with the pp's that you should start out at moderate and then go deluxe.

Mod then Deluxe. Always! We even did a split stay between the YC and GF (in that order), and found it to be a wise choice!

We've stayed Deluxe (Poly) then Mod (POFQ) and as others have said, it's best to do the moderate first and then the deluxe. While POFQ was nice, compared to the Poly it was 'eh'. So the next split stay we did we stayed at Pop and then the Poly. MUCH better! :cloud9: The deluxes have so many more amenities that it's hard to adjust to leaving them when you downgrade to the mod for the rest of the trip.

Last summer we stayed at CSR and then GF and were thankful we hadn't booked in the reverse order. CSR is a great resort but GF was that much better.

You were smart.
We did the opposite. After 4 glorious days staying club level at the Grand, we moved to CSR, and though it's a lovely resort, I was miserable at the time. Yes, in hindsight, there was nothing wrong with CSR, and I'd stay there again in a flash, but it was a huge letdown after the GF. Let the Polynesian be your treat to look forward to.

I always book the deluxe on weekdays and the mod on weekends so I save money. I am happy to get to stay deluxe at all so I am not disappointed moving to a mod.;)
